Hello all,
I am new to this forum but I thought redirecting my issue to where it is most related with, I thought fixing this here would be most efficient
I am currently developing a 1995 rendition of KDFW airport, but I have struggled with this issue for basically ever when it comes to designing an airport... (I'm using ADE and SBX btw).
The issue comes when FSX displays the taxiway marks. I have seen (thus far) that in FS2004, taxiway lines are displayed without a black underline. I know that black edges enhance the visibility of taxiway marking and signage, and I am ok with that, but when it comes to FSX displaying the Dashed Taxiway Edge Line, I think it is not realistic. At least from what I have seen in Google Earth images and other airport photos.
To make it easy, I'll show it in a screenshot. Is there any way that I can turn the black underline between yellow marks into no underline at all (only the taxiway pavement to show underneath)?
I know, from editing the "taxiway_marks.dds" texture in the Texture folder, that the underline comes from that texture. What I fail to understand is, although the texture has an alpha associated with it that gives 100% transparency to all the non-yellow lines, FSX does not honour this transparency. On another note, I read in some place that some textures use their alphas to simulate reflection, not transparency. (I'm using DXTBMP but can also use ImageTool)
The only conclusion I have come to is that, while FS2004 shows no problem with transparency on taxiway marks, FSX does not show transparency at all, and everything in this texture is shown (i.e. opaque, without transparent parts). I have also tried to create a new black-transparency alpha image for the "taxiway_marks.dds" texture and edit the texture itself, but to no avail.
Sorry for the long post, appreciate any help.
Best regards
