• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender and FSW?

Since the FSW SDK has been out for a while now, I'm wondering if anyone with more knowledge than I have has taken a look at Blender2FSX in its current state of development to see if it can produce FSW-compatible aircraft? The FSW XTtoMdl is an "improved" version. That's one thing (I suppose it can be temporarily substituted for the FSX one in the FSX SDK folders), but there's also the question of FSW's use of PBR, and whether Blender2FSX can handle that, with its current feature set. More than one question there, looking forward to any feedback.

What do you mean by PBR... Do you mean Physical Based Rendering or something else? I haven't heard that FSW has that at all...

It would be possible to do so... but someone would need to know python and have information of the SDK.
Hi @bigglesworth,

Thank you for your interest. Currently I have took over developing the toolset. I have the idea of making it available for FSW though. But since I got 0 knowledge when I decided to develop the toolset, I have made decision to gain my knowledge on python coding. So, currently I am learning python coding. Therefore, sure I will try my best to develop the toolset compatible with FSW but the time frame cant be promised. It might take few months for me to improve the current version before extend it to FSW. There are few new features in the list of "to be added". Once that is done, I am sure it is easier to support FSW since the basic features are already in the toolset. You can find the latest Blender2FSX/P3D (v 0.9.4) here. Some new properties for 'P3D v4' is added in this version.

Adding support for FSW is like adding support for P3D v4, from the X file creation point of view it's just some extra material attributes that can be set. Only problem is that the SDK doesn't document the X file format, so you have to look at sample files to see how it works.
