• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

[Blender] Reduce Polys on Aircraft Model

Hello,
I'm looking for someone with a bit of experience in Blender. I downloaded a nice model from Turbo Squid, but unfortunately, it's too high-poly for a FSX/P3D scenery object.

The model in question is found here:
https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/piper-pa-18-supercub-fbx-free/1041070

I need someone with experience in Blender to reduce the amount of polys on this model. I gave it a shot myself, but since I'm not use to the Blender layout, it's proving to be a pain since I can only make the reductions piece by piece.

The author of the model does offer a low-poly variation, but for reasons that I can't explain, he has chosen to sell the low poly version for $90 and release the high-poly version for free. Since $90 is way out of my budget for a freeware project, I'm hoping to reduce the polys as much as possible on the free model.

If anyone could help me on this task, it would be much appreciated. Since it would be for a freeware project, I'm hoping to find someone who wouldn't mind donating their time. However, if need be, I can scrounge up a bit of cash for compensation.

Going from 300k polys to anything usable for a static scenery object is plain nuts.

Try to find a Super Cub model for FS2002 or FS9 and run it through ModelConverterX' LOD Tool to reduce the polycount of the highest LOD and add more low-res LODs. That should put you into a much better position.

I have been working with that idea as well, but unless it's hidden, that tool is no longer available in either the latest stable release or in the latest development release.

How about building the model yourself from the ground up? The you become in full control (again) about how much polygons you put in there.
This will also enable you to get a little Blender practice on the fly as well
