• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender Blender-UV unwrapping with mixed object types/groupings

Hello. I have a project where the goal is to add textures within Substance Painter and then into msfs2020-2024.

I am currently at a stage where I need to unwrap the UV's of the model, but they contain a mix of components/groups (from modelling within Sketchup), and a mix of object types such as wiring, flat squared faces and so on.

Using the smart unwrap when selecting all objects within the project does not make a good UV map - and I suppose this it not the way to do it in complex models.

How would you go about UV unwrapping a complex models such mentioned above. Would you pick one-by-one object and unwrap each of them, or select a few, or...?

I believe I understand the basic principles of UV'wrapping, but I don't understand how people can have the patience of unwrapping a building such as the one above. I guess I need some advice on how to do this most efficiently...

There is a good video from Blender Bros about unwrapping just for speeding up and its easy to follow a simple steps.

Thank you. I believed I had completed all such videos on youtube, but I guess I missed that one. It certainly makes UV-unwrapping more effective with "select sharp edges+mark as seam". I see it's a bit too effective, so I still have to go over each object and verify that the seams are marked where intended, but still more effective than marking seams manually.
