• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Boarding Stairs (gates simobject) keep moving downhill

I am adding the required SimObject to a Gate, in my case a boarding stair (no Jetway on this apron). The "Apply Flatten" is thicked in the Airport properties, but it seems not to be perfectly flat, and that's ok. The fact is that the vehicle does not stand still in the position where I place it, but (as it has wheels) it starts moving towards the little slope. It's probably a tricky terrain, because even if I rotate in another direction, it keeps going downhill, stopping somewhere far. Same problem when I add static vehicles for design purpouse.
They do the same not only in the editor, but in the finished scenery as well.
What am I missing?

I've noticed this too. I'm not really sure why it does this. If it helps, to make a gate that doesn't require a simobject, change the type to one of the RAMP_GA options. If you want a gate that allows the user to call boarding stairs to the aircraft, make the type a RAMP_GA_LARGE.

And the boarding stairs does not need to be linked to the parking spot? Or do you need to put it somewhere in the airport anyway. I don't know how it works with service vehicles and the difference between an Object from the Scenery section and the ones from the SimObject section.

Boarding stairs don't need to be connected or added anywhere else in the scenery once you make a RAMP_GA_LARGE. You won't see the boarding stairs until you build the scenery, reopen the simulator, and start a flight at that gate. In the ATC menu, under ground services, there should be an option to "request a ramp." Pressing that will have the boarding stairs drive over and connect to the aircraft. I believe it has to be one of the larger planes like the A320NEO or 787, since smaller planes don't need stairs.

I'm not sure about the difference between SimObject and scenery, but I know with jetways, you have to select them from the SimObject category in order for them to animate. For everything else, I always use Scenery.

I solved parking the stairs in spots where they don't seem to move. The places were just outside the apron, so I added extra asphalt :)
