• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Fantastic!
I see some shadow on the roof. Is that texture or real shadow?

So are you converting some models from Google Earth?

boiseGE.jpg

I ask because first of all if you are you should say so and second of all because I'm working on a similar project for NJ cities and am interested to hear how things are going for you. I've only done a couple imports of Collada objects downloaded off the Trimble Warehouse using MCX to test the idea - am sorting objects out now into cities and landmarks, etc.

For example if this stadium is from the Warehouse I notice the transparency under the small bleachers doesn't seem to be working in FSX. Looking for a fix? I was wondering too about some models I looked at in MCX with transparencies that didn't render properly and don't know if it's fixable or not

Hi Yes its going to be 50,50, Some models are Sketchup Warehouse and some custom Models.

the Stadium is from sketchup but i edited some textures and also resized them. Didnot experience any problems yet, only sometimes textures go missing after exporting but i was always able to fix these kind of problems by applying new textures or edit the sizes

Don't ask me :) But if I figure it out I'll let you know... I might not even bother in most cases. Really the bleacher problem isn't a huge deal in that model. But I did notice some of mine that have flags that don't seem to render right I may look into...

This is not a hijack, just wanted to mention it for others viewing this thread, as I am sure most of us already ask before using another developers works, its good practice to obtain permission to use or modify another designers work before using it, however the warehouse is a little different, and the policy states the following:

Rights granted to other end users of the Services. You give other end users of the Services a perpetual, sublicensable, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute Existing Geolocated Models, Existing Non-Geolocated Models, New Models and related content and derivative works thereof which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

Its up to each person to read the TOS, but Google basically says you can use, modify, etc for anything you want, limited only to what the terms of agreement state. In a legal sense, if you have legal issues, seek an attourney, as I am not one :D

yea that's what spurred me on to do my own cities project, after finding similar information searching here on FSDev. Of course, freeware makes things a bit easier and I plan to credit what authors I know of. It's clear though the Warehouse doesn't care. Not a single bit of author information is included in any Collada ZIP files I have downloaded - and I've got close to 1000 objects

I used to do converting the sketchup model to 3ds and gmax.

But what I found is the models are usually complex and lots of drawcall.
Then I make up my own models but use their models as a template and make less complex one. It came out good and no frame rate hit.

Please make sure that your city does not bother the user when they take off or landing at the nearby airport. If that happens, user might want to throw your city away since it make them cannot fly. Just the airport and AI consume a lot of resource already.

The transparencies are usually png files. I left them as is and did not convert them to dds files and they worked fine.
