Can I add/relocate jetways? Remove default ones?

Hey guys,

Playing around with FSX Planner I'm having a little trouble moving jetways. I'm attempting to move both a parking location and the jetway for it YMML. The parking spot is moving without a problem, but despine FSX Planner telling me the jetway has moved, it remains in its original location. Is it possable to move these things and if so, does it require anything special? All the details in the jetways property fields still corrosponde to the correct parking spot.

Thanks in advance,

Kael

Hi Kael,

So that I understand the problem you are having, you try clicking and dragging a jetway, but it doesn't move?

Hey Russell,

In FSX Planner, the jetway moves just fine. I'm able to click and drag the jetway to a nearby location, along with its associated parking spot. The XML compiles fine, however when I go run FSX and load that airport, while the parking spot has moved, the jetway remains in its original location.

To try and troubleshoot, I tried simply deleting some jetways. Again, FSX Planner indicated that they had all been removed and compiled without an error, however loading by FSX, All the jetways where in their default positions. Almost like you can't touch/remove them as in FS9.

I can attached the XML if you like?

Cheers,
Kael

Yes please attach the xml file. then I'll take a look and see if I can duplicate the problem.

Hi,

Are you trying to modify a default file?

José

No, this particular airport was originally written my Jim Vile I think... I've attached the .XML.

Something strange just happened however. I've made the following modifcations to YMML.

A) I've moved GATE/JETWAY D4 - When I just compiled this last time, both the gate AND jetway had moved. So that worked. However,

B) I've also deleted all the D Gate jetways. By default there are jetways at all Gate D parking spots. I've removed them all, as per the .XML, however when I compile and load, the jetways still appear.

Any ideas?

I'll continue to play around with it.

Also, can anybody point out a quick and easy way to locate the default FSX Airports? I understand their are multiple airports in .XML files..

Cheers,
Kael

There are. Probably the simplest way would be to use SDE TestApp. This has an Airport Search function and you can extract just the XML for the airport that you are interested in. You can then either export this as a Bgl file or export the XML.

EDIT

Just looking at your airport - I have not looked at the jetways but I am not sure that your Apron Edgel Lights are correct?

Thanks Jon,

I've also expirimented with this YSSY airport file. In this example, I've removed all the international terminal (western side of the airport) jetways. However when I compile to FSX, their still present. Am I doing something wrong?

Kael

Are you excluding the existing jetways in the Airport Delete Record? If not then the originals will show up still. There is a flag to deleteAllJetways that needs to be set to true. I do not see any deleteAirport Record at all for YMML so the original stuff will show through from the Default Bgl file. The same seems to be true for YSSY

Identify the file first...

Hi, Kael

You have the original file, at: folder: 1005 file 8645

No, this particular airport was originally written my Jim Vile I think... I've attached the .XML.
Kael

You said you have another file, for the same airport. In which folder? Are there an exclude file, too?

Which one do you want to modify, the default ou the Jim's version?

Try to isolate the problem to easy the solution.

If you want to modify the Jim's one, ask him first.

If you want to modify the default airport, uninstall/remove Jim's version and its exclude, if there is one, before.

Please, read Jon's advise about modifying default files, before going ahead.

If possible, do not modify a default file, but exclude the airport inside that file and create a new one airport file with the modifications you want to make.

José

Ok, that makes sense I guess. We never had to do this in FS9 tho did we? My understand was you just thew another AFCAD in your addon scenery/scenery folder and FS9 read it over the top of the default one. Is this not ture for FSX?

I'm not into modifying default airports. Instead I've taken your advice and loaded YMML with SDE, saved it as an XML and are modifying that one.

So in which XML do I need to set the deleteAllJetways? In the 2nd BGL thats in my addon scenery/scenery, or in the default airport?

Sorry for the questions, didn't think it would be this hard...

Cheers,
Kael

Jose,

Thanks for the advice. So is there an easy way to exclude the default YMML airport and thus allow me to run with a second one?

Kael

Well actually AFCAD does it for you. So does ADE. Essentially both programs look for a deleteAirport record in the file and if it not there they create one without you having to know about it. In fact they go further generating one that excludes everything except approaches which should not be excluded in most circumstances.

It has to be in the modified one. The deleteAirport record tells FS to ignore the entries in the default one and use the information from your new one.

You could add one using SDE TestApp but if you are using FSXPlanner then that allows you to set the deleteAirport Flags before you compile I think. Make sure to set all the flags EXCEPT the approaches one unless you want to stop AI Traffic. Make sure you use the revised XML (out of SDE or FSX planner next time so that you have the deleteAirport record present.

Sorry for the questions, didn't think it would be this hard...

No problem - it can seem very daunting at first but it soon comes easier :)

Thanks for the reply Jon,

So ADE will do this for me each time I create an airport? That is useful and explains why I never knew about this was AFCAD. Unfortunatly Jon each time I load either TestApp or ADE I get errors. If you like I can report them over in the SDE Forum?

I therefore assume that FSX Planner does NOT do this? If not, would this be a simple thing to implement? It seems to me that the novice user (me) will not want to or know how to edit XML files. A nice say, check box, asking the user if they would like to eliminate the default Jetways, BlastFences, BoundryFences would be most useful?

So I'm looking at the .XML now and found the deleteAirport record. Do I just set deleteAlljetways="False" to ="True" ?

Thanks guys,

Kael

Please report any errors with SDE or ADE over in the Scenery Design Engine Forum and we will see if we can sort things out.

Well Russell is the best person to answer on how FSX Planner handles airportDelete Records but I am pretty sure it creates one for an airport.

Under the Compile Prepare Options menu item it shows a dialog that indicates that all the delete flags are applied except for approaches (which is the recognized standard for doing this).

Kael

Please, compile the following code and put the resulting bgl file in the folder:

\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\scenery

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<!-- Created by Scenery Design Engine (SDE) on 29/5/2007 -->
<FSData
   version="9.0"
   xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
   xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd">
   <Airport
      country="Australia"
      state="Victoria"
      city="Melbourne"
      name="Melbourne Intl"
      lat="-37.6733331754804"
      lon="144.843333363533"
      alt="132.283M"
      magvar="-11"
      trafficScalar="0.7"
      airportTestRadius="5000.0M"
      ident="YMML"
      >

     <DeleteAirport
         deleteAllJetways="TRUE"/>

   </Airport>
</FSData>

All Jetways should be excluded.

José

FSX Planner DOES allow you to specify which delete flags are set using the nice checkboxes within the Prepare Options dialog (Compile -> Prepare Options, or by clicking the Set Prepare Options button within the Compile dialog.) :)

By default none of them are set. So if you did want to delete an airport, runway, jetway, etc, you would have to select the appropriate checkbox.

Having a manual to explain this will help, but it isn't written yet. :)

FSX Planer include a dialog that helps you find which bgl file a defalt airport is located in. Select Compile -> Find Airport and then enter the IACO code for the airport you are looking for. The folder and file name will then be displayed for you. The folder will be called something like 0302 and will be located within your scenery folder. You can then find the bgl file within that folder and decompile it to xml. When you open that xml file within FSX Planner you will see a list of all the airports within it. Then just select the appropriate airport (or airports) you want to open.

Bgl to exclude

Hi, Kael

I am attaching the compiled bgl. Please, the folder should be:

\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\scenery

and not the one I said before.

I tested the file and is ok for me.

José
