• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Can I export/import Parkings/Taxiways/Runways?

Hi everybody,

I try to modify the ORBX airport AFCAD of the ETNS Schleswig-Jagel Air Base. Therefore, I want to use the newest Parkings, Taxiways and Runways of the latest MAIW AFCAD, released with John Young's marvellous Tornados IDS Luftwaffe.
Is it possible to export/import the files mentioned in the topics title from the MAIW AFCAD into the ORBX AFCAD?

Well I've never been able do this for FSX, so it may not be possible to do this in the other sims either
I take it you have tried?

Hi Ray,

yes I tried. It is possible to mark all needed parts as in post #1 inside the "LIST" menue - it also has the option to "export". But the files you get are "crv" datas. When I tried to import any files, I only have the option to "import ADE" files, which are compiled as "adto". So: Why is it possible to export something as "crv" but impossible to import it as it? Maybe I am missing something?

Not sure I understand .crv. ADE imports and exports certain groups of objects selected by the user but these are exported to .adto as you mention Perhaps you can give me an example of the .crv file and how you actually got it? Export and Import are under the File menu.

OK I found the Export function you refer to. This is in the List Window and exports the data shown in the table. The one you want is File > Export ADE Objects. Select the objects and export them using that function. You can later import them from the same menu (which you found). There are some limitations on what can be exported but I can't recall offhand. You may need to try it and see how it goes.

Thank you, Jon. I fear ADE objects are kind of mdl files (so all scenery objects or stock mdl files...). But files like paths (taxi, runway, parkings...) seem to be impossible to export in any way. Just had a hope I probably have missed anything.
My intention:
Using the ORBX ground of Schleswig-Jagel AB, deleting all paths/RWY/Parkings. "Copy" or "Export" all appropriate needed files of a custom designed SJ AB and paste/import them into the ORBX file.

The only way I know to do that is to Compile the airport using the Save XML from the Compile Advanced settings, edit the XML to a format suitable for ADE import (and limited to the items desired), and then use File/Import XML to add them. I have not yet figured out what is a "suitable format" though.

I am interested in this one as well. I have an old ADE file with more than 100 parking spots and associated taxiways etc. I want to import that data into another ADE file which has all the aprons, Scenery items and runways etc. surely there must be a way to perform this very basic function.

I’ve tried the XML route with no success.

Graham.

You can use copy and paste objects from one project file to another. It is a long time since I implemented that but it seems to copy most items but sadly not the taxi network itself Parking spots do copy. If it does not copy the taxi network then I suspect it has something to do with the interconnection data. However I will take a look at it to remind myself.

EDIT
Copy and paste does not preserve the placement data of the objects so isn't of help here.

One other thought in the meantime which may or may not be acceptable is to compile the two separately. ADE already has a method of generating multiple bgl files for FS9 airports to get around the compiler limitation. The sim will 'combine' multiple bgl files when displaying them. So a BGl file just containing the parking and taxi network could be compiled alongside the airport. Graham if you send me the two project files I will have a look at it - jon AT scruffyduck DOT co DOT uk
