• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Convert X-Plane OBJ object to FSX MDL plus texture?

Hi All - I'm hoping to use a couple of the human scenery objects from the X-Plane 3-D People Library in FSX (for a mission). MCX will import the OBJ and display the figure no problem, but when I export to FSX - as BGL - the figure displays in black - i.e. no texture. I've then tried putting the OBJ's associated PNG into a 'texture' file (alongside the 'scenery' file with the BGL) but the texture displayed is incorrect (a mess, in fact!).
So, is there a texture manipulation required to correct this and can this be done in MCX or DXTBmp or similar?
Any help gratefully received - Thanks!
Cheers - Dai.

Not really answering your question, and I'm not sure what people you need, but there is a library of about 300 figures for FSX on the AVSIM library. It may even be a conversion of the X-Plane library you are using (it's authored by Wolfgang Allers). Search for 3dpeople_lib.

Yes, you need to convert the texture to BMP or DDS, and that can be done by MCX (in the Material Editor, as I remember).

Many thanks, guys, for your quick responses. I will, indeed, check AVSIM out.
I will also look more closely at MCX'x texture conversion - I couldn't see how it was done so I guess I'll have to RTM!
Cheers - Dai.
