• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

Coordinate Converter issue

Hi!

Might just be me that is stupid. (That's probably the case) but either way.

I'm trying to make my first GP just as a test. But when I enter my coordinates from the .TXT file that SbuilderX generated into Coordinate converter in MCX nothing happens. The "Flat earth X and Y" and the "Geocentric X,Y and Z still remains at 0,000.

What am I missing?

You need to input a reference point Lat and Lon - is usually at the top of the co-ordinate converter window.
The "Secondary Point" is where you put the co-ordinates of each corner.
It's up to you what your reference point is, I usually use the co-ordinates of the center of the main runway.

Hope this helps

Well, I've got the reference points but not the coordinates for each corner. How can I get those in the easiest way?

If you downloaded from SBuilderX, it will leave you a txt file with the top, left, bottom and right co-ordinates. For the corners you just get the Top Latitude with the Left/West longitude .. then top lat with right/east lon etc.

Isn't this what you meant? Because this is what I've tried before but still dosn't work. As you can see still 0,000 everywhere.

You are using the co-ordinates of the top left corner so it will return 0,0,0.
You are also using the bottom right corner as the secondary point.

Go on google to the area you are building and use the runway center point, right click (in google maps) and click "What's here" - it will display Lat/Lon... use this as a reference point and not your actual corners. It is ideal though to have the reference point in the absolute center.

Once you have set the reference point, work only in the "Secondary Point" for all corners.

It may also be the fact that your text file is using , instead of . As you can see, I inputted the same info as you and got results but I used a decimal point and not a comma.

If you want to get the absolute center of the image in co-ordinates, you can do this by:
2 / (Top Lat+Bottom Lat)
2 / (West Lon+East Lon)

The co-ordinate center of your image is 65.5442471465997, 22.12097167968755 - I would advise using this as reference point and keeping note of it. Then your secondary point you just input your co-ordinates for every corner, so you will need to do it 4 times.

I mean I have as you know tried to insert the exact same coordinates as you but still nothing, even if it works for you
