FSX custom music sound effects for FSX

Ok, I've been toying around with some effects for fsx. Now here's my problem, I want to assign a certain 'music' or 'song' to my fx_aurora effects file. I put it in as instructed in the SDK effects manual. But, when I start the effect, nothing happens, all I get is my normal background sounds. I can't seem to get my 'song' to play in the corresponding effect. what I need to know is when entering the 'distance' parameter, is the value in feet or meters. I have the effect displaying at about 1000 feet. The parameter for sound in the effect is set to 300, but I am not sure if that is supposed to be in feet or meters. I couldn't find any reference to it in the manual,(unless I missed it somewhere). What I want to do is have a different song played in different areas using a different Aurora effect. I have the Aurora displaying correctly and at the correct distance and only appears when you get in range, but I have no music. the music file isn't all that large (only a few MB) and is in a .WAV format. I just can't get it to play with the corresponding effect (in this case it's fx_aurora5.fx). Can anybody help me figure this out? I'm certain it can be done. Do the music files have to be in a particular directory and in a particular filename? Help please.
