Custom Runways (best practice)?


To improve my photoreal airport, I am about to create custom runways instead of the default FSX.

At first I hand painted a full runway texture something about 1024 x 29000 something pixels, maped it on an 3DS thin polygon but imagetool could not process my huge texture to convert it to DXT... :rolleyes:

So I suppose the custom runways we see out there are not one single texture piece but perhaps multiple pieces?

Or is there any tutorial or specific way to make custom runways that have a high resolution texture so it looks crisp once on ground level?

I also need to make the custom runway gets the FS runway lights etc. So I suppose it should be a poly over the default one?
