• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 CYWG James Richardson International Airport - Winnipeg Manitoba Canada

I've been working on CYWG Winnipeg off and on for about two years now. It is time to show the FS9ers out there the progress I've made. Just a bit of background first. This project was started by Jon Gabbert (of CYVR fame) quite some time ago. In fact, I think he announced it on his "AddictedtoAirspace" website but that was so long ago that the new terminal building, opened in 2011, wasn't built built yet. After I finished CYQR Regina Jon asked if I'd like to partner with him on his Winnipeg project. Jon had got a good start on the terrain work and had built up a nice model of the new terminal and the Perimeter Aviation hangar. Jon's real world career as a commercial pilot with Air Canada got in the way of scenery design so he offered to turn over the keys to me. By this time I had already invested too much time and effort into the project to say no. I had already built up models of most of the airport buildings on the west side of the field. There was no turning back so I've carried-on to the point were I've just finished rebuilding Jon's Terminal building to achieve a much higher resolution of detail. My project philosophy is to get as much resolution out of FS9. I've also finished models for most of the Terminal campus (hotels, Greyhound Bus terminal, old Control Tower etc.) So, I think there is enough progress to show off the project. Please keep in mind that the screen shots show only the building models. Still lots of work after all the building are done to put in vegetation, fencing, lamp posts, power poles and ramp clutter. I start with a series of shots of the terminal building. Note these are all WIP shots. The terminal building still needs all the baggage facility doors added.

Hey Greg,

Really stunning looking this project of yours! :O
Is is going to be freeware or payware?

WOOOOW... I'm that much impressed by your work now... stunning adaptation of detail on the finger gates...
And Building texturing looks beautiful!

my chin just fell down... couldn't hold my breath away...
It's looking awesome! And I can't wait to fly up there from your previous masterpiece of regina airport...

But by now you should think about making it a payware... since it's a work of Jon Gabbert as well...
He should profit from it a bit as well..

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Love it!

Hopefully you'll be implementing an afcad as acurate as possible in the end...

WOW... Thanks is about all I can say but that does not describe my reaction to the shots..

Not notch again Greg!!

Looking forward to the final product,

Greg

Thanks everyone. As many of you know, building models of airports is a lot of time consuming work so glad you like it. I appreciate all your kind comments.

When I get this finished it is my hope it will be the most accurate rendering of CYWG available. I don't live in Winnipeg so that adds to the challenge when I don't have a reference photo. Just can't go and check out some detail that has stumped me because I don't have reference photo. Lots of time consuming sifting through photos on the net. If anyone reading this thread is from Winnipeg or has recent pictures of Winnipeg airport please let me know. Thanks.

Greg

Greg,

this looks really outstanding to me and I have a feeling that your work on Winnipeg is going to make it as "the scenery of the year 2018" for us FS9ers. :yikes:

Thank you very much for not dropping the old FS2004 spirit of flight simulation and for keeping it freeware. Our simulator world would be a lot poorer without your engagement.

i always laugh at the air canada hangar becuse its below you on final to runway 31 i think...

good luck and hope to see it relesed soon

Ok im in Jamaica at the moment but will be back in winnipeg saturday. Enjoy the shovelling!

Greg, just for my information: Haven't you been working on a Scenery for Saskatoon once? I remember something like that...

Has that been released somewhen and I didn't noticed that? Just wondering...

CYXE Saskatoon was on my to-do list until the Winnipeg project came along. Once upon a time there was a payware developer called Aviasim that planned on doing CYXE for FS9 and FSX. I sent Aviasim a big load of photographs but the project was abandoned for some reason. It looked pretty good, so too bad. Aviasim vanished soon afterwards. Subsequently Simaddons has done a representation of Saskatoon for FSX and P3D. Nothing more recent for FS2004 since a very basic rendering done during the early days of FS2004.

and what about now... would you may do one for Saskatoon, after Winnipeg is done? Would be a nice try to continue on creating FS9 Sceneries so far... Would be a shame if you'll be abandoning on FS9 Scenery creation since you do a hell of a good work!

Hi Greg

This is a beautiful display, a work of a master! Well done my friend.

All the best,
Sergio.

First thing first by friend! Winnipeg is a long way from being finished. Still, I would like to do Saskatoon but it isn't in my plans at the moment. Maybe if the Aviasim fellow who was working on CYXE is reading this he might donate his unfinished work to me. That would be a nice head start!

Of Course... however, I'm looking forward to the Ending of Winnipeg. Can't wait to get that Scenery as Soon as it is finished.

Btw. can we do anything, that I can do a little financial donation to you, once winnipeg gets finished? I'd really like to give you a little profit from your stunning work, you're doing on that wonderful Scenery.
