• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

It's finally finished and will be published by Aerosoft tomorrow. The initial release is for 64 bit and the 32 bit versions will come soon after that.

I couldn't have done it without this site. Thank you to Arno and everyone who posts here and especially those who posted in reply to my (sometimes inane?) questions.

I should also thank in particular Felix for creating the Blender exporter and Tom for his XML tools.

So…does this mean I have to get rid of my Just Flight DC-8?

Seriously, it looks great!

At how many polys, drawcalls and materials is the final model clocking in?

The VC is 112,000 polys, a little more than double that in triangles. I don't know off hand how many drawcalls and materials and I'm a bit afraid of finding out. There are more than 60 (I think) warning lights and they are mounted on little boxes that you can push in to test the light. So they are animated or children of animated parts and each has its own material for lit and unlit. Someone who would know suggested to me that they should all go on one texture sheet and have a common material, but I couldn't see how this would help reduce drawcalls since they are animated parts. I think there was also a bit of language problem and we had some trouble communicating. I may still try putting them on one sheet to see if it makes any difference.

The external model has 72,000 polys (129,000 triangles) and is pretty light on textures by today's standards.

Overall the FPS seem OK and no one ever raised any issues about FPS in the beta.

Don't put them on a single sheet as this greatly increases memory usage. (1 animation = 1 extra drawcall = 1 additional material clone)

Anyway, 70k to 110k polys doesn't sound too unreasonable.
Would be great to have an add-on that does not eat framerate or memory for a change.

And here I was thinking your project was dead and Aerosoft had decided to start their own...but fortunately I was wrong!
