• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Delta AI Problems

Hi, I am having some problems with getting my AI to work. I have sucessfully installed the flight plans and aircrafts but the planes just stay at the gate. I rarely see planes taking off. That is the same for seeing airborne planes. Does anyone know what I did wrong? Sometimes if I am on the ground long enough some planes begin taxing but I still don't see any planes landing. I have attached the AI files for reference.

Which sim?

Which airport(s)?

Do you have addon airport parking files?

FSX default airports have a lot more parking available than FS2004 airports, but one thing in short supply when you add real world air traffic is fuel trucks.

FSX includes a series of pre-flight steps before AI aircraft begin to move. At large airports this can take 10-15 minutes before the first plane starts to move.

We have to add a lot of fuel trucks to airports like KATL and at places where they are not located in the real world. If you group several fuel trucks in on area like the real world, usually only the one on the end will be used.

Only the fuel truck with parking closest the aircraft parking spot will be assigned. That truck has to go to each aircraft in the order in which the plane reached that stage of the pre-flight process. Then the truck has to return to its parking spot, then depart for the next aircraft. KATL has only three fuel trucks for all of the main passenger terminal area. That would limit the airport to a half dozen departures per half-hour.

On big airports we have to place fuel trucks close to each bank of aircraft.

Your WOAI flight plans will be a day off in FSX, so make sure you are going to airports at the correct time. As in some of your other posts, make sure parking is connected to taxiways.

Adding to Reggie's post

Go to your Traffic Tab in FSX and set "Airport Vehicle Density" to NONE

This will cause FSX to bypass some of the calls (vehicles) in the pre-flight steps. AI Planes won't wait at the Gate and will start pushing back.

This is for FsX and at Minneapolis airport. Yes I do have add on parking files which I created through ADE. How would you reccomend getting more departures. Adding more fuel trucks or just getting rid if them Like jville said.

KMSP is barely functional with six fuel trucks near the terminal areas.

One big problem is that there are four parking areas with no fuel trucks. Overall I find that adding sufficient fuel trucks, and a vehicle road network so the trucks stay off taxiways and runways is the best. But it takes time.

It is a permanent solution to be a long range project.

Jim's suggestion of moving the Airport Vehicle slider to 0% will let you know very quickly if the base problem is a lack of fuel trucks or the schedules.

Thank You

I should have been more clear that my suggestion was nothing but a test.

Wow...another reason why I love this site... I did NOT know this. I have never read this until now... Explains a LOT from a few things I noticed bad with my airports... Soon as I get my computer running and can start designing again, I will be making some major changes to fuel truck parking and placement.

THANK YOU!!!

A couple of ways.

First you look at every where on the airport that aircraft park. You add vehicle parking spots sufficient to ensure that one is close to each group of parked aircraft. I try to have no more than 20-25 aircraft in range of each parking spot.

Then you have to link the various parking areas across the entire airport together. If you look at satellite photos, you can usually see where roads run between parking areas.

In some cases you are going to have to create roads where none exist in the real airport.

FSX has a very bad habit of stopping the AI aircraft whenever a ground vehicle is on a taxiway, or even a runway. Because ground vehicles will use those to get to different parts of the airport if there is not a road network.

What you want to end up with is a fuel truck vehicle parking spot near every AI parking spot and a path to allow that truck to get to the aircraft parking spot without hindering the flow of AI aircraft.

One 'side effect' is that a number of other ground vehicles will be generated on the airport. This is a function of the number of parking spots for Gate and Cargo aircraft. The more of those, the more other misc vehicles you will have on the airport.

The road network will also keep those vehicles away from the taxiways and controlled on the aprons.
