• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Disappearing effects / out of sync effects when leaving airport

So I am making planes as scenery objects with attached effects for lights, and a couple yellow flashing effects that are supposed to flash alternately on and off. Like a wigwag effect.

Everything looks ok until I fly away and come back, the steady light effects are gone, only the orange strobes remain, and the yellow effects are now flashing at the same time.

Is there a fix to these two issues?

Hello:

There are quirks in Effect *.FX implementation for all versions of FS.

In some cases different rendering is seen when a flight is spawned locally at the airport with placed Effects, when compared to a flight spawned remotely at a (?) distance from the airport with placed Effects.

That can sometimes be resolved with a change of Effect "Type number" in Effect coding.

In other cases, the solution is more challenging to sort out.

There are threads here which discuss this issue, and propose various solutions for both FS9 and FSX.

Randomized "Wig-Wag"-type Effect light display was implemented by n4gix (aka Fr. Bill Leaming) years ago for FS9 aircraft.

Specifically, the Effect lights displayed on aircraft wingtips were coded to achieve some randomness.

IIRC, that was either posted as code, or as a download at various websites.

Doing Google searches may help find these things.

Here are example queries using Google ...which IMHO, yields more results than the limited search engine at FSDEV:

UPDATE: A Google search helped me find the thread in which Fr Bill describes the Fx coding for randomness with lights:

Speaking of searches, please help other forum users and administrators out by including a FS version number in your threads.

Here is a quote I sometimes post which explains this process:

"Help FSDev index, and forum participants to follow- and perhaps contribute posts to- your thread(s); it is important for you to:

* Please state which version of FS this thread pertains to; edit your first post (aka "Opening Post" aka "OP") to insert this info.

Choose a FS version as the subject of a thread by clicking the 'down arrow' next to "(No prefix)" ...when starting a new thread. :pushpin:"
