Don't you just love 'customers'

#21
I cant believe how many emails I get from customers that are disgruntled stating my sim plane is messed up or doesnt work right or messed up their throttle, etc, etc. One guy said my two electric planes now have thick smoke added on. Smoke on an electric plane? He finally found out what it was, and it had nothing to do with my plane. People download and install SO MANY DANG THINGS that they have overlap of 'things' going on and it causes havoc for them and they blame the first person they can. Embarrassingly, they find out whats 'really' going on....

I recently had just the opposite experience with ADE.

Thinking it was primarily for creating and modifying airports, I never really looked into the capabilities of this powerful utility until I recently got a bug to place some of my helicopter related scenery objects in the Grand Canyon in my installation of FSX SE, for which my prior favorite object placement utility, Instant Scenery 2, was now useless.

Following Jon's advice in the FSX SE forum at Steam, I downloaded and flawlessly installed the appropriate P3D SDK, then downloaded and installed ADE without incident, and got all of the tools pointed in the right directions. Again, having never seen the ADE UI, I figured out how to add my objects and had my first landing tower installed at KGCN within about a half hour.

Truth be told, I missed the "what you see is what you get" UI of IS2, and was reminded of the good old days with Rwy12 and my trusty Crosshairs_plus placement aircraft, so bringing my CH+ fleet out of retirement, I was able to hit the ground running.

Actually, when placing a landing tower on a pinnacle in the Grand Canyon, the IS2 WYSIWYG UI was never all that effective for "landing" the object to be placed in the right spot sticking up above the canyon floor below. Like skyscrapers in the city, first you had to get the object at the right altitude.

At any rate, I am delighted with ADE, especially its unforeseen ability to add the placed objects to the FSX Map page, which is a major improvement over IS2 and makes a huge difference in locating my landing towers in the immensity of the Grand Canyon.

(EDIT: I am also pretty darned happy to be able to quickly place a small flatten on top of my Grand Canyon pinnacles, which may actually make ADE faster than IS2 for placing my helicopter towers in unusual locations)

Thank You Jon!!!

Best regards from a new "customer". :)

Cheers
Gary

While I don't have my ADE EULA in front of me, I'd wager that somewhere in there is the disclaimer that ADE is not responsible for any damage to the user's computer…some of us actually read the EULA.

Re Lionheart's "Smoke from electric plane issue" - It can happen. Years ago I was driving my 1968 Volkswagen Beatle home from college with the lights, window washers and radio on. I heard a sizzling and then the "cockpit" began filling with smoke…perhaps your customer had a similar issue ;)

Thanks Guys :)

@Gary I am really pleased that ADE is working for you.

@Will Of course my license says - use at your own risk :) It is in the installer but like most people I don't read it. However I do make a reasonable assumption that folks will have a license like mine. I recall fondly the first time I was asked for compensation and pointed to my license which says that I my liabilities are limited to no more than the user paid for it. Since that user was using ADE without the ProKey I offered a check for $0.00 :)

I had a customer in England bought my airport VTBS, which does not exist in FSX and FS9. He said why he saw no AI in the airport. No matter what I tried to explain that AI is not part of the scenery, he never got it.
Someone seem to have a fix idea and perspective of though. No one or any explaination can chage their thought.

When I launched my learjet, I found out just exactly how many people A) cannot read instructions and B) refuse to do what is required for something to work, even if reading the instructions carefully.... and after that, have the audacity to complain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NUTS!

Well, I could offer my service as a freelance customer support specialist. I'd travel around the globe on behalf of (payware) devs and whack offending customers with printed editions of EULAs and manuals (all blown up to make a nice, heavy hardcover book). :D

Back in the days when I was helping folks sort out their installation issues at the Rwy12 website forum, I noted that nearly everyone who was completely unable to ever get Rwy12 running had used the phrase "no joy" at some point while describing their ongoing problems. The problems and fixes were usually the same for everyone, in fact, in many cases I simply cut and pasted the solutions from previous threads.

And, as far as I know, no one with installation issues who had used the term "no joy" was ever able to follow the simple instructions to overcome their installation problems. For some reason, if I pointed out that there had to be something they were overlooking, and that thousands of other "customers" had successfully installed Rwy12 by following the same instructions, they would get upset. :duck:

At a website for the popular map mod "ProMods" used in Euro Truck Simulator 2, there are numerous 'complaints' that "this mod won't work!" and in at least 99.9% of the cases, it is because the user failed to read and follow Step 1, which is to generate and download a definition (DEF) file...

...despite it being on a page by itself with short, declarative sentences using the minimum of words.

On the page immediately before Step 1, there is even a spinner dialog where one may choose to display the instructions in one of 48 different languages, so there really is no reasonable excuse.

The instructions on the PM homepage are as easy as they get. I got it to run perfectly before I ditched it for MHA's EU map.

Speaking of...need to catch up on ETS' current status and get my mileage up. Haven't trucked a mile ever since I bought my first one.

"Ditched?" Whatever for? I have four different Profiles, each of which offer a very different 'experience'. PM's latest iteration with Iceland, the Faroe Islands and expansions into Northern Scotland, Estonia, Latvia, and Southwestern France is fantastic fun!
  1. Vanilla (for testing)
  2. ProMods
  3. MHA
  4. Hungary (Magyar)

Sounds like I need to check out this sim. I have seen posts on it.
Bill, I like it precisely because it is just plain relaxing fun. I've always enjoyed driving, but these days between my health, the cost of gas, et cetera this offers me the opportunity to explore Europe and not have to worry about anything...

...well, except for crazy AI drivers who're far, far worse than any AI pilot in FSX or P3D! :rotfl:

I use my CH Yoke as a "steering wheel" and the brake axis on my CH Pedals for brake and accelerator.

SCS is working on American Truck Simulator (I already have a t-shirt for it!), but it may well be Christmas before it's ready for release.

But... what if that user somehow finds this thread?
Life is a bitch and then you die ;)

As an example. I just arrived in Florida and wanted some food. The household credit card provider has bounced me before so I made a purchase in the liquor store (lemonade only you understand) and the card was accepted. So then I went to the local supermarket to restock the refrigerator and the card is bounced. So I used my Amex card which was accepted. I got back home and then received a message from Amex that someone tried to use my card in Colorado to by $13,000 worth of rebar. So now my Amex card is cancelled, They are arranging to deliver me a new one here in FL. So for now I have one card left and if that gets dumped I will have to move in with my sister and beg emergency assistance................. I am afraid to go out of the apartment in case I get hit by a truck :(
