• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Double sided object

Hello,
Just a quick question... I'm modeling a fence, I found this in somewhere on this forum,
The planes are double-sides (DS_fence) and use a transparency mask.

Where do I punch in the DS_ prefix in Gmax??

thanks,
Brandon

Hi there!

You do that in the Material name, so that the name reads like "DS_name". Not sure however how the lightning is working with the new gamepack on such objects, I seem to recall that the objects tend to get the same light (f. ex. bright) on both sides.

There is a fence in the Object market on this website. Check it out! :)

Hi Brandon,

You won't see it in Gmax as a double sides fence. The prefix is for FS2004. Gmax will only see it as a name not as a 'code' or something. If you place your object in flight simulator it should be double-sided

ok awesome, also is there a better way to deal with all those points than just trying line them up in the UnwrapUVW editor? I know I didn't word that correctly so I included a screenshot so you can see what I'm talking about. Cubes don't have all those little points... Is there some way to delete them?

Brandon

You probably made the plane of multiple sub-planes, called segments in Gmax. If you set width and length segments both to 1, they should disappear.

[edit] you can set it in the editor tab under plane [/edit]

Bingo. You guys are amazing. Thanks so much. One more question ;)

When I first create my plane, it says plane in the modifier list. Now when I covert to editable poly, mesh, or whatever, I can't find the original 'plane' modifier. Is there a way to bring it back up?

thanks again,
Brandon

No, it isn't possible to access the plane modifier anymore after you've changed it to an editable poly/mesh/patch.
When you turn the object into an editable poly/patch/mesh, you are mostly going to change the shape of the object and therefor Gmax isn't able to threat is as a plane anymore. If you use the editalbe poly/patch/mesh function, and change the shape, it isn't a plane anymore.

In case of a plane it shouldn't be too hard to make a new one, I think. But if you want to change the number of segments after you turned the object in a editable poly/patch/mesh, you can do it easily by removing the inner edges, via the edge function of the editable poly/patch/mesh.
