• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Edit FSX default terrain textures

Hi at all! I'm new but i will learn fast ;)

If someone fly over Italy in summer, he will see that the ground texture will be dark yellow like desert. The real Italy's terrain isn't like FSX!
Does anyone know how I can edit the original italian terrain to improve it like the real?
Thanks at all!

Hi.

There's no need to edit FSX files. New files will replace the default ones.

What you need to create is a new landclass for your area. You may also want a new region BGL. And, if the ground tiles still are not right, then you may need to make new groundtiles.

I suggest you read as much as you can here, and at AVSIM to learn about these things... and of course study the SDK.

Hi there,

while the last I'd want to do is to discourage anyone from adding the FS development community :) if anyone is interested in a "quick fix" for the land class/ground texture issues across parts of Europe point your weary browser here: http://www.fscloud9.com/php/products.php?lang=EN&id=166

What's interesting about this product is that the developers also include updated regions and seasons files for parts of Europe.

Discussions about the product can be found here: http://forum.fscloud9.it/viewforum.php?f=35

Cheers, Holger

It looks like a really good product! Love the European autogen too.

Now can someone just add some nice landclass poly beaches... I know of a great freeware tool to do it! :)

Hi Holger.

For about $10 US, that is a good solution for improving European VFR, without having to reinvent the wheel. ;)

Yep got that one but after reading the SDK how to check the relation to Olson Land Classification Table and which texture is used...
For example in the cloud landclass file they used the 10 Irrigated Grassland
If I would like to change that one with 004a****.bmp files....
via TMFviewer it's clear to see the table value....
But where can I find the relation table > texture...
The BGL file gives only values (FSDATA) longitude and latitude...

Thanks for any tips guys...

Hi,

This LC/Texture mapping is hardcoded into lclookup.bgl. Although I suggest to make some changes to it in the "FSX Terrain patch" post, I do believe that the problem with the way Italy is rendered should be addressed by altering the FSX regions definition. Francesco Mandelli (see http://aliditalia.blogspot.com/) proposes a free patch that does just this and seems to be very happy with the results.

Thank you Arnaud,
I'll download and test your new landclass fix.
My modified region files for Italy may be downloaded from Avsim:
http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=93604
The link you suggested is from my blog, in italian language.

A la prochaine.

Buon giorno ! No parla italiano...

But I can usually understand what you're saying on your blog. So, I supposed someone else could... Obviously avsim is more simple for english-speaking people to look at. May I reuse your work in a future version of my landclass, since we overlap a bit ? That would be very kind of you.

Cheers,

Arnaud
