• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Dear All:

I have attached the default fx_navwhi.fx effect to two models using attachpoints.
The problem that I have is that the effect appears at Day and just disappears when I'm close to the object, If I move back it appears again.

Scenario:

Start at night, change time to Day ...

Long Distance:

Short Distance:
8-11-2016 07-33-42.png
Model converter attachpoint:

I hope you can help me.

Dear All:

I have attached the default fx_navwhi.fx effect to two models using attachpoints.

The problem that I have is that the effect appears at Day and just disappears when I'm close to the object, If I go away it appears again.

Hello:

IIUC, when you say "If I go away it appears again", you mean if the user aircraft is moved farther away from the object to which you have attached the Effect, you are then able to see the attached Effect ?

Also, when you say "two models", are you referring to 3D MDL files ?

If so, this scenario might suggest that there is a LOD issue.

Thus, if there is a higher LOD version of the "two models" seen only at closer distances, the Effect also needs to be (separately) attached to the higher LOD version of the "two models". :scratchch

FYI: Depending on what conditions you intend for display of the Effect (Fx) file during the DAY versus during the NIGHT, the Effect 'may' need to be attached to AttachPoints twice, with specific (and different) Fx conditional display syntax in each such attachment using ex: MCX Attached Object Editor.

BTW: We may be able to help you better if you reply here, stating what you 'intend' for conditions of display of the Effect (Fx) file: ;)

* visible at DUSK, NIGHT, and DAWN ...but not during the DAY

...versus:

* visible at DAWN, DAY, and DUSK ...but not at NIGHT

GaryGB

I'm attaching my two Modes and the placement file.

I tried replacing commas by semicolon without success on the effect parameters.

What I want is to display a light effect just at Dawn,Dusk and Night.

I'm not using LODS.

Hi again, Alfredo:

In addition to the linked threads now added in my edits of my post above: :pushpin:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/effect-doenst-disappear-at-day.437992/#post-751208

...I suggest that, since P3Dv3x introduced some new complexities for working with Effect lights, and since P3Dv3.x is one of the FS versions you intend to support via your scenery, you should also review this post:

Sorry my available free time is rather limited right now, and that all this is in rather complex English; but I hope this info helps ! :)

I have created a model with two attachpoints, but the result is the same, I can see the effect at Day in spite of the Effect Parameters.

Same problem in FS9...
I created light houses some time ago.
The effect works fine when time of day changes from "day" to "dusk", but remains if time changes from "dawn" to "day"...

I found no solution.

Edit: correction, I was not patient enough...

It takes about 10min from change of "dusk" to "day" to extinguish the lights...

(as far as my latest tests showed)

Indeed, the FS "clock" for Time-of-Day related scenery object and/or terrain texture shadowing seems to work in 10-minute update increments.

One may wish to inspect for such changes and Effect display by temporarily setting a faster "FS simulation rate" from the FS menu.

I can't replicate this behavior in my computer with Windows 7 and FSXA.
This problem happens with (Windows 10 and FSXA) and with (Windows 7 and FSX-SE)
I don't have FSX-SE with windows 10 therefore I can't test it.

FSX-A: FSX Acceleration
FSX-SE: FSX Steam Edition

I think we shouldn't use effects with effectParameters to avoid this kind of displaying issues.
