-Everything you know about upcoming Flight Sim from Microsoft-

Boy oh boy. All I hear from Microsoft re the new flight simulator is crickets. Next will be bug splats on the windscreen. ;)

I found the wording slightly ambiguous:

It's not clear that the SDK preview will be generally available or only available to selected 3PDs. Maybe I'm over interpreting the text.
In today's (16.1.2020) update they say

"After a ton of hard work over the past few months we are happy to announce that an alpha version of the SDK will be available in the upcoming ALPHA release!
Only 3rd party development partners will have access to the SDK in which they will be able to create and edit airports, sceneries, planes and missions."

As far as I understand the Alpha release is on 27.1.2020. Let's hope that "Only 3rd party development partners will have access to the SDK" only is related to the Alpha, and that the SDK will be publicly available later...

"Only 3rd party development partners will have access to the SDK"

I hope they will allow access for some others that represent smaller commercial developers and freeware developers. Else, the direction of the SDK and it's tools becomes very one-sided. We didn't have this problem with FSX, because the size of commercial developers were quite small to non-existent. Different world now.

Yes. They did state that there will be a legacy mode for existing objects.

Some objects use SimConnect.

Why go to the considerable trouble of building a legacy SimConnect interface and not implement it in your main sim? Foot meet bullet.

The latter video above:

...at 01:30 elapsed time, states the SDK will allow "you" to link sounds to environment variables: ;)

[EDITED]

"The good news is the SDK will allow you to access all these simulation variables for creating a new template audio using XML files and Wwise.

All these files will be accessible to simmers, meaning "you" will be able to tweak- or even add- sounds

We also made True, that the FSX legacy audio content were still usable in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator."

This looks (and sounds) ...awesome ! :p

Perhaps we will have access to 3D spatial sound in addition to DirectX 'multi-positional monaural' sound in FS2020 ? :scratchch

Today we find out if us scenery developers are going to be replaced, suffice to say, I am as nervous as a 16 year old before a pregnancy test.

Episode 6 of Discovery series is today, and its about the airports.

Edit: So apparently only coming out next week Thursday.

No, it's not pushed back. They never said it would be published on 02.13, but on 02.06ish they said
"We are putting the finishing touches on our next episode in the Feature Discovery Series! Episode 6 will provide an in-depth look at the airports we are building in the next generation of Microsoft Flight Simulator. You should expect an update on the official date for release in our next update (02.13). "

So they did - they now announced the release date for Episode 6 to be 02.20. Looking forward to it... ;):)

You can sign up to the Alpha, and apply to be a third party developer, and email the team for that.

For me, i LOVE the way things are going here. Its a clear and concise message from the new team that they are committed to a successful and well developed product. They are slowly introducing third party developers and ironing out the bugs. That can only be good for us in the future, when this thing is fully baked. :)
