• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Exact coordinates for placing an EnvironmentalDataProbe

Hi all,

I am trying to accurately place a windsock (alone, no pole as it already shows as part of a freeware scenery) within P3D v4.

I have got the sock itself showing close to the position of the pole but I am battling to get it right on the exact coordinates!

What I have done to this point is: Placed my avatar right on the position where the sock needs to display and taken note of the coordinates, then I converted the coordinates to decimal and added them to the xml.

This has the sock close, but not exactly on the spot. So, I'm unsure if my conversion was accurate enough.

I would love to know how to do this accurately so I can do it for any other OZx freeware airports I come across that are missing them.

Hope someone can assist in any way?!

Hi

As you say, the conversion is the issue as it’s too inaccurate.

You’ve several options that I can think of which I’ll list here, from most accurate to least:

Open the freeware placement bgl with whisplacer or bglanalyzex and save it as a xml file. Find the entry for the windsock pole and copy those coordinates directly into your xml.

Open the bgl as above and move the pole to where your object is. Of course if you edit the freeware files directly you cannot release them to anyone if you intend to.

Use tcalcx to get the position of your avatar to put into your xml.

Change the p3d coordinates to display decimal coordinates.

Let me know if you need help with any of this.

Thankyou @6maynew, that is really helpful.

I downloaded whisplacer and while I couldn't exactly pick out the pole I could pick roughly which blue square represented it. That got me really close, then it was just a matter of manually adjusting the last digits of the lat and long to get it perfectly positioned on the pole.

Victory!! :)

Thankyou again.
