• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Exporting model causes part of aircraft invisible.

Hi,

About a week ago I've started experimenting with MCX and thought of using it to add PBR to P3Dv4.5 aircraft models (I know 3DS Max is better but I had issue importing the airplane models into 3DS Max). It works as what I've expected except I noticed there are some models such as the PMDG 77W and Aerosoft A320 Pro CFM winglets where the fuselage and tail will be invisible. In fact, I tried it with a FAIB freeware A320neo model and the entire fuselage was missing regardless of me modifying the MDL or not.

I then noticed that whenever this error appears during the model export, it will lead to the aircraft being invisible.

I have no idea what to do at the moment as I'm fairly new to this. Maybe some guidance, please?

Here's how the invisible model would look like in the sim.

Are you sure the models you are talking about are P3Dv4 ones or at least native FSX ones?
Are you exporting (=converting) as P3Dv4.4 mdl's?

To activate PBR textures, requires defining material attributes that are not otherwise used. This requires a new model, one cannot apply texture attributes that have not been defined.

Yes the models are very much likely to be native p3dv4 as it’s the aerosoft airbus pro.

I followed a tutorial on youtube by a guy named Ken Webber. It works as intended in some models and doesn’t in some others. However, I know it’s not the correct way of applying PBR. But here my problem really isn’t related to PBR as I’ve imported the model and immediately exported it to reproduce the issue I had.

Ok well the point is that licensed users of Aerosoft and PMDG products are not permitted to recompile models and here yes, your problem is directly related to PBR, because you want to run a very complex model through MCX, specifically to add those attributes. It is not that you are not allowed to do it, that is on your own conscience and sense of propriety, it is the fact that the issue that you have is a consequence of using MCX. It is likely a matter of visibility conditions, meaning that if the part doesn't meet the set condition, it's invisible and possibly also some copyright protection, which also makes parts invisible, unless license queries return valid. Aerosoft specifically uses a module that must be actively running in the simulator, in order for all parts of their software addons to be visible.

But it seems like you are approaching the situation from a perspective that is not advantageous to you. It is clear that there are no PBR versions of these aircrafts, yet there is demand. There is an opportunity to produce these aircrafts and as an owner of lesser version, you know exactly what is needed for improvement with PBR. If this is beyond you, then it is probably best to wait for the publishers to release their improved versions.
