• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Find the BGL-file that contains not existing lighttower

I am busy remodelling the airport of Inishmaan in Ireland. I downloaded several aiport compilations and made some adjustments because many of the airports are wrongly placed or have weird buildings. Now everything is at the right location and the buildings look the way it should be. But there is a light tower with a rotating light remaining near the airport, which in real world isn't there at all as far as I know. I have been looking for the file that is responsable for the placing of this tower, but I cannot find it. Is there an easy way to locate this file ? I already disabled all areas in the Scenery Library which could be related to the tower, but the tower shows up everytime. Of course it's not a big thing but I would like to know why and how this thing is showing up everytime. I added a cockpit view. Maybe someone recognizes the tower ??

Hi,

It looks somewhat like a default beacon tower. Can't you just place an Exclude rectangle over it, using Exclude All?

I'm guessing, because you've cropped your screenshot and I can only see W9' 34.33', that it is the default EIMN. Can't you just delete it?

Hi.

The object is an airport object. It is not a single object, but it is the main object (tower) and an attached airport beacon light:

airport_object_beacon_tower.jpg

Both objects are located in the file "airport_objects.bgl" in the folder Global\Scenery

I found the tower in the airports_objects.bgl thanks to the post of Christian. Thank you for that.
Leaving me with the question where the instructions are given to place this tower on this location.
I assume that airports_objects.bgl is only an collection of objects without placing data.
So, there must be a file that indicates the placing of this tower on the location, for instance near the airport of EIMN.
Or am I mistaken ??

Sometimes 3-D objects have the coordinates directly, sometimes they have a separate placement file that contains the coordinates for the 3-D model. But in this case, the beacon tower in the Stock Airport is included as a scenery object (yellow diamond):

You can just delete this object or you can exclude this object with a Exclude Rectangle.

Hi Christian,

As I mentioned above I made a MOD of an already custom made EIMN with ADE , because the airport layout wasn't right. So I replaced runways, apron etc. and added my own made airport office building, smoke coming out of the chimney and the fire truck is on the apron. All is now at the right place according to Google Maps.

I started up P3D and slew to the location of the tower. In ADE I placed an Exclude Rectangle on the spot where the plane-symbol was (the tower was not visible of course) and compiled my airport again. The beacontower has vanished. !

I also located the file in which the EIMN airport should be oresent (APX45130.bgl) but I was afraid to damage this file by deleting the tower and then recompiling APX45130.bgl.
I like the way the tower was demolished :)

Doesn't matter anyway, the tower has disappeared. Thanks to all who have contributed to this solution.

Image of the airport office. :))

Glad to hear you got rid of it. Never edit the APX files, for several reasons. Much easier to either delete them from the ADE display (if visible) or use an Exclude rectangle.
