• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Fixing UV errors when creating liveries

Hey everyone,

I am currently getting to know how to make liveries.
My current project is a livery for the TBM 930, but it has one issue, the UV seems broken at some places:

No matter what I do, I always get these zigzags instead of a straight line.
Is there a way to fix this? Because I am just doing the livery, not the 3D model, i can't just paste an object over it :-/

I guess the problem is that the liveries in MSFS is 3D geometry ontop of the fuselage object. So the fuselage doesnt have great UVs, because it will be covered by 3d livery that doesnt have this issue.

I dont think this can be fixed in game without editing UVs or creating your own 3D model livery.

The only option would be painting with Substance painter, but then you need the 3d model with correct UV layout.

These sorts of issues are common, at least with Asobo 3d models. The Cirrus 22 has a similar problem on the tail and below one window. A straight line in Blender becomes a way line when viewed in MSFS. The problem is Blender itself, as you will find the error if you look at the texture directly. I use GIMP to fix any Blender issues and create the final DDS files. So with these errors you just have to fix the error in the texture directly using a paint program like GIMP.

Yes, you both are right. It is a very narrow triangle in the UV map, so when painting, at some point the triangle's corner is so small, that the painted pixel overlaps with nearby UV faces. I've worked around it by drawing the line two color border somewhere else :)
