• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Flatten Help

Hi,

I'm building my own airport (fictional, for fun) but when i create things in afcad, half of the airport is below the ground. What i'm asking, could someone tell me how to flatten the ground. I already tried to do it in de scenery.cfg but it didn't work.

Or maybe it's better if someone would do it for me. If you want to do it for me, i will send you the co-ordinats.

Thank you,

Daan

In FSX, the flatten switch in scenery.cfg is no longer working. Best IMO is to use sbuilderX or FSX_KML.

sbuilderX is here:
http://www.ptsim.com/sbuilder/setup.msi

You can create an airport boundary polygon which:
-flattens the mesh
-stops autogen from being placed
-displays an appropriate gound texture

Thank you, but I don't know how the program works. I'm fairly new to Flightsim.

If you find it easy, could you make the flatten for me?

Thanks,

Daan

FS9 or FSX

Hi,

Which fsim, FS9 OR FSX?

The flatten's methods are differents.

José

Flatten in FSX

Hi,

The flatten is made within a polygon (circle, retangle, square, etc). That polygon has the geoghaphic coordinates from the place.

Nobody can make a polygon to you if he/she doesn't know the area (the local, format and altitude) you want to adjust (become plan or flatten).

I suggest you take a look at Google Earth, learn a little about geo coordinates and the kml format). The SbuilderX is a very special tool, but you could use the FSXKML if what you want to do is just a flatten, as scott told you.

Regards,

José

Well, I already have to coordinates and the altitude of the place. But I just realized i also need to exclude the autogen.

This are the coordinates.
Its is a square and i will tell all the corners:

1. Lon= N62* 0.41'
Lat= W146* 28,79'
2. Lon= N62* 0.41'
Lat= W146* 23,36'
3. Lon= N61* 58,38'
Lat= W146* 23,36'
4. Lon= N61* 58,38'
Lat= W146* 28,79'

Altitude= 1791 ft.

And what do you mean with 'the local'?

Daan

The local = the place.

Please, give me the 4 points in the order (counter-clockwise):

1 - NW
2 - NE
3 - SE
4 - SW

and the coordinates in decimal format.

I will transform the altitude to 545.9 meters.

Regards,

José

Hi José,

Here are the coordinates:

NW:
Lat: N62* 0.77'
Lon: W146* 30.10'

NE:
Lat: N61* 59.38'
Lon: W146* 22.80'

SE:
Lat: N61* 57.88'
Lon: W146* 24.08'

SW:
Lat: N61* 59.08'
Lon: W146* 30.36'

Thank for helping me, I'm very thankful.

Hi,

Please, be patient. I will make your flatten and exclude poly (to exclude autogen), but you need to make things more clear.

The first time you sent the coordinates you changed latitude for longitude. Now it´s ok.

I take a look at the region within the above coordinates, using Google Earth, and it looks like a mountain region, but I didn´t see any town nearby. It´s East Europe, ok?

If you know any town/city in that area, please, give me the name to make things more easy to you and me.

The Google Earth shows the median altitude near 1.150 metres (not feet).

I am waiting you answear for those remarks.

Best regards,

José

It´s East Europe, ok?

No, it's in Alaska.

If you know any town/city in that area, please, give me the name to make things more easy to you and me.

The nearest airport is Tazlina-Z14 and the height at N62.012695305589 W146.501495361111 is about 667M.

Hi, George

That information is very useful.

I flatten at 650 m.

Dann,

The file is attached. If you want to see a runway in the place, put the afcad file TAZ2 in aactivated scenery folder.

Hi, Daan

I don't know if your afcad can be adjusted to that flatten. Normally, If I had your AFCAD I would make a flatten for a small area (that one measures 7,8 KM x 14 km, which is very big for an airport.)

When you finish your AFCAD, if you want to adjust the flattened area as well the autogen exclusion, you could send me the file and I'll modify those.

We are thankful to George for pointing the Tzalina town in the nearby.

Best regards,

José
