• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Fliegerhorst Büchel (ETSB)

Hi there,

I am currently working on Fliegerhorst Büchel (ETSB), a German Luftwaffe air base some 18nm NE of Spangdahlem Air Base (ETAD).

Groundbreaking ceremony took place on the location of the first hardened aircraft shelter (HAS) in December 2019.

At the moment I am trying to organize a visit of the actual air base and yet awaiting feedback from their PR unit.

For now I am building in ACAD, Blender and GIMP for FSXA. But sure enough I am monitoring FS2020 evolution and prepare to port it to the new environment when the time has come.

So here you go with a first little teaser:

Since I am all new to building simulator content, thank you for your patience with this project. I had CAD/CAM experience from the real world and as I was fed up with not having an appropriate garage for my warbirds on German soil, I gave it a try and this is where I am right now.

So there's lots of things left to do... more building(s), neater optics, more positioning, animations and coding to steer them..., not to mention re-iterations for less impact - but let's first get started with that visit to the air base to have a better idea of how to boost the immersive experience.

I'll keep you posted in this thread. Feel free to comment and suggest from your side.

Cheers, Pat

As of today....

...there's almost as much to do as yesterday, except some trails ruled out. So I am not gonna spend any more time on lighting as such and I solved my Volume Shadow issues. The response from the Luftwaffe is still due and I am patiently waiting for that one, given that I will be busy with other things in February and March anyway and that athmospheric conditions in April are so much more favorable to have pics and vids properly done outside.

However, I took a leap of faith and acquired a new bird that would fit my ongoing creation. A plane I have downloaded over and over again from different sources and that would never ressemble the one I grew up with. And I was happily surprised with a professional purchase process and a neat aircraft. Big shot to the Just Flight guys! It took me a quarter of a century to acquire something worth my beloved Digital Integration Tornado and I am not yet done with catching up - but they made it happen: it is there! We'll get it to what it was all those years out there in real life and to what it is to me... lemme just get that bloody 'ol German garage done first...

So here you go with some more eye candy:

The pros among you will see a lot of things to enhance. The repetitive texture on the inner arch and back wall sucks, most of the inner hangar textures have no detail yet, the shape of the exhaust vent looks odd, there's no animations whatsoever,...

...at least one thing is genuine: there's only inches for the wing tips to pass through the doors... and 'these little aeroplanes cost about 40 million pound each (back in the 80's) and the wing tip is around 6 percent of that'... - if ever you wonder where I got that from, watch this:

So yeah: just getting started, still figuring out so many things... - but I am on my way... just to let you know...

Thankies for watching!

Cheers, Pat
