• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS9 Patch Released

Hi Nick!

A few words about how FS performs after upgrading, to us mortals who have yet to do the big leap?

/hans

You will get improved framerates.
You will have less Crash to Desktop issues
You will have better autogen performance (no Memory Leak)

Hi Nick.

There is still a worse memory leak associated with Landclass or VTP2 using 'Texture" folders that aren't fully populated. This was not fixed, nor were we given the ability to return a flatten to the mesh-state. :(

I actually haven't tested the seasonal CTDs to see if they are properly banished.

I'll fly the KSEA area again to get an impression of the autogen "fix". That would have been one of the dll file replacements... not a fix for any actual objects. That means the patch probably does affect our objects as well, as they should be dropped from memory quicker than in the past.

Hi!
has anybody seen in the old forum my topic about "manhatan lights sindrome"? It's about custom VTP poygons using autogen textures that show lights from city textures and there are way too much lights during the night in for example forests. Does anybody know if that problem has been fixed now?

Regards,

The seasonal CTD has gone from my own tests. As has the autogen problem. I have to say, I did not know about the other memory leak, and I am also not sure that MS do. Can you post full test details for me?

Hi Gorchi,

Again, I do not know... can you post test and examples here please for me.

Okay Nick, I will have to look a little bit on my home computer and I will send You the examples. I have found screenshots used in that topic:

Pay attention on the forests!

And one during the sunrise - look how many lights!

As said, when I come home in the evening, I shall look for the files.

Thank You and best regards,

Do you mean the old scenerydesign.org forum, from before the server crash? In that case I should be able to retract your post from the backup I have. I will have a look at it this evening.

But as it is not mentioned in the readme of the update I don't expect this problem to be fixed, but that is just a guess.

Hi Nick.

I am astounded if you do not know of the landclass-related memory leak.

Any landclass file, or a VTP2 that uses named textures, may not have an empty ( or underpopulated ) 'texture' folder opposite it's 'scenery' folder. Or it will cause a memory leak. Microsoft absolutely does know of this. Apparently, it isn't fixable.

As far as autogen, testimonials, and my own experience, indicate the autogen "leak" is better, but not gone. Default object distance for the autogen seems to have been altered, and makes the problem less severe.

Problematic VTP scenery

Nick,
as I promised, I am attaching one of the problematic BGLs. In FS2002 it works great, in FS2004.. ehem. I have also added the source file for this BGL.
BGL is correcting the surroundings of LJPZ airport, available as stock airport in FS200x.

Best regards,

Hi Goran,

Thanks for this....

...and thanks to you, Nick!
My upgrade went smooth as butter, took some 2-3 minutes and everything works like a charm. Dunno about better framerates, but that´s my rig, not the game, that is to be blamed.
