I guess it's good then that there is no need to run Steam when running FSX-SE.FSX works best as a stand alone program. Steam eats up a lot of system resources when running in the background, for FSX which is already a super resource hog...STEAM would act like a pack of locked up brakes.

That's not at all true.

4. FSUIPC will not work until Pete can recompile it to use the new version of SimConnect that FSX:SE has compiled.
...
SimConnect is backwards compatible, aside the old SimConnect port registry keys not being set. FSUIPC isn't compatible because Pete uses undocumented DLL exports.Bill, would I be correct then in surmising that FSX:SE is not installing previous versions of SimConnect, the way P3D does?
At present FSX: Steam Edition will require a digital “handshake” with Steam at the start of a session.
So, aircraft addons are working ok on SteamFSX?
Doug, FSX:SE installs its own re-compiled version of SimConnect. However, in the SDK folder they've also included is the ..\LegacyInterfaces folder, which contains FSX-RTM, FSX-SP1, AND FSX-XPACK .msi installers for previous versions of SimConnect. One need only run each of the three as needed for full backwards compatibility.Bill, would I be correct then in surmising that FSX:SE is not installing previous versions of SimConnect, the way P3D does?
That is a rather odd statement, given that I can launch FSX:SE directly from my Desktop Icon, without having the Steam program running at all, much less minimized to the taskbar!Since Steam is a digital platform will FSX: Steam Edition require a persistent internet connection? At present FSX: Steam Edition will require a digital “handshake” with Steam at the start of a session. After that point you may go offline and continue your session without interruption. We recognise that many simulation fans prefer to be disconnected while they play and as such we are working towards making FSX: Steam Edition playable while operating Steam in offline mode. Please note that multiplayer will always require you to be in online mode.
I just unplugged my Cat5 cable from my dev computer and ran FSX:SE just fine. Since that's the only version installed on this machine, there's no doubt at all that the Steam version was running.Which rules FSX Steam out in my situation, my FSX computer is not connected to the internet.
There is one critical difference though...I'm running FSX Acceleration and FSX Steam Edition side by side just fine. As shown by the folder structure outlined in my previous post, they're completely independent of each other.
