• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Planner build 13 now available (May 29th)

Hi all,

A new version of FSX Planner is available. You can download it here: http://www.zbluesoftware.com/clients/FSXPlanner.zip

Here's what has been modified/added for this version:

* ILS Beams and their associated DMEs and Glide Slopes can now be displayed and edited. By default these items are not displayed. To show them, select the Show ILS Beams option under the Display menu. The colors used to render the ILS Beams, DMEs and Glide Slopes can be customized from within the Preferences Dialog (File -> Preferences; Colors tab). When you select any part of the ILS (ie ILS, DME or Glide Slope) all items associated with that ILS system will be selected and highlighted, making it easier to see which components are part of the ILS system.

* Pressing the delete key will now delete any selected item in the airport display.

* Runway center lines are now displayed on runways as appropriate.

* Runway closed markings are now displayed on a closed runway.

* Runway STOL markings are now displayed on a STOL runway.

* The buttons within the Taxiway Sign Wizard have been rearranged to provide for a better order.

* Some slight display errors have been cleaned up within the Taxiway Signs that are displayed in the taxiway sign properties display and in the Taxiway Sign Wizard.

* Fixed a bug that set the default look and feel to "Metal" instead of "Windows". (For best performance you should use "Windows" as the look and feel. Setting it to "Metal" causes some of the property windows to need scrollbars which are not needed when using the "Windows" setting. This setting can be changed under File -> Preferences, General tab.)

* Fixed a bug which prevented having altitudes below sea level.

Thanks!

Fantastic progrss Russell!

I was about to request the ability to delete using the delete key but you've just covered that. Only other thing I was going to ask about was the ability to display jetways in something other than a block? Perhaps an icon that indicates which is the 'base' of the jetway? That will make it easier to position them correctly..

Cheers,
Kael

Hi Kael,

Improving the Jetway icon is a good idea. We'll have to do some experimenting to see how Jetways actually line up within FSX, and then come up with an icon that best reflects that.

XML Sections

Hi, Russell

I open a XML file in FSX Planner and the airport sections have a certain section order (sequence). But if I save the same file in FSX Planner, edited or not, the XML code sections are in a different order or sequence.

Is it possible to maintan the same sequence, as it is in the default format or when it's saved by others tools (AFCAD, ADE, SDE)?

Thanks a lot.

For some annoying reason the xml writer seems to write out the attributes in alphabetical order instead of the order that you specify them. This is causing the issue above. We created our own xml writer to use when creating the xml file to compile because the order there does matter, but are still using the default one for writing the main xml file. It's not the end of the world that the attributes end up in a different order for the saved file, but would be nice to have them consistent. So it's on the list, but not very high on it at the moment.

good job so far with this program, how can i get VASI on the left and right sides of the runway?

Russell do you have any plans to allow a link/connection between FSX and Planner, like AFCAD and ADE do? In my mind, this is the only thing missing from your program..

Yes, there will be a connection between FSX Planner and FSX. It'll be done at the end of the development process though. But hopefully that isn't more than a few more releases away!

Good catch. Right now the VASI can only be assigned on the left or the right side of the runway, and not on both. We'll have to look at the best way to allow for this option.

"ILS Beams and their associated DMEs and Glide Slopes can now be displayed and edited."

Does this now mean that we will be able to add ILS to a given runway if one does not exist?

Not yet. The functionality to add an ILS beam has not been implemented. So for now you can only edit and view existing ILS beams.

The ability to add them will be in an upcoming release.
