• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Generic Textures Improvement/Fix, Any alternative to Orthoimagery?

Hello fellow developers ;)

I was wondering if any of you knows any alternative to Ortho to fix gaps and clouds?
I remember seeing a small island scenery on fs.to, the developer turned a default generic textures island into a beautiful and realistic island, but it looked like he did it with polygons. like a LandClass scenery. (can't find it anymore tho, if you know which one I'm taling about, please post the link)

So Anyone ever tried making a LandClass in MSFS? or any other improvement/enhancement methode to fix uncovered/cloudy areas?

Regards, Marc

Polys wouldn't allow you to blend, so that would be a problem. If the clouds were not too extensive, you could just extract the tiles from the sim, and select-stamp-blend the individual tiles in a paint program. Also labor intensive.
https://scihub.copernicus.eu/dhus/#/home can get you Sentinal-2 imagery at 10 meters... not the best resolution, but maybe better than landclass. JP2 format can be read by QGIS, and can be saved as geotiff as maybe 1m resolution fro reworking in a paint program.
Arcgis imagery is pretty good, but there would be copyright issues if it's to be distributed.

Hi Dick,
Yes, the clouds are a big problem, but there is also Huge areas without Ortho, thats for them that I wanted to know about the polys.

especially for a small airfield in the middle of the rainforest, the AI made it with the wrong "landcalss", I will have to draw the poly with the RainForest "material", if its the way is works?

SVLB is on an island north of Venezuela (Blanquilla). BlackShark or Asobo must have just given up trying to make it look right. I don't know of anyone making a landclass, as worldwide aerials override everything. I thought there was a New Zealand addon that used polys.
