• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Get rid of the default airport-rectangle?

On my airstrip I used a big exclude to clear away all default airport-objects including this ugly rectangle that is underlayed all airstrips/airports in FS.
I had to remove the exclude in order to use effects.
But now all my groundtextures/polys I created with ground2k4 are below this rectangle. How can I overlay or better exclude it?

Hi Thorsten,

Do you mean the grass polygon of the default airport? In that case you need to make a VTP exclude to remove it.

Yes, that's what I mean.

I thought the exclude would influence the effects. Is there a difference between vtp-excludes an object-excludes?

Hi Thorsten,

Yes, these are two completely different types of excludes. The VTP exclude only removed mesh elements (VTP polygons and lines). This type of exclude has no influence on objects (or effects).

The XML exclude indeed has a negative effect on attached effects (only effects that you attach in GMax, if you place them directly with some XML code they are not exclude).

...and to exclude the airport base polygon exclude layer 7 in your VTP exclude.

If by some oddball chance something else in that LOD13 cell uses layer 7, it too will be excluded. In my limited experience that meant that some of the Ultimate Terrain/US Roads would be excluded. So I just add them back in with some appropriate VTP lines, using layers 23 and 24.

Thanks for this tipp. I tried the vtp-exclude and excluded my polys also. :(

Now I know why. ;) :)
