P3D v4 gltf converted light flashing in mdl

Hi Arno!

I'm converting an MSFS created GLTF into an MDL. The lights are static and works fine in MSFS but when I convert it to P3D MDL MCX somehow adds a flash duration of 0,2 seconds. There are literally hundreds of lights so to change one-by-one is really painful.
On the other hand the fx is generated but I have no idea which part of the fx regulates the "flashing".
Not only on this object does this flashing, any gltf which includes light causes this.

Thanks for your support!

Hi,

Would you have a sample of the MSFS light? Then I can check why the import adds the flash.

Hi,

I see what is happening. The light in the glTF does have a flash duration set of 0.2, but the flash frequency is 0 (thus disabling the flash). But when exporting the FX file I only look at the flash duration. I will change that to take the frequency into account as well. So in the next development release this will be fixed.

Hi,

And did the solutions from the topic not work? As far as I know that is a common issue with effects that has been in the sim since FSX.

To be honest I did not try it yet.
But if I understand correctly I should attache to the object a controller file (in MCX) and in this controller file I should point to the effect that was earlier cretaed by MCX?
I wonder if it is possible to do this by MCX in one step. I hate manual editing these FX's.... :)

If this solution works I should maybe consider to update MCX to use that approach indeed. But I would need some input from developers if this is the preferred way to do it nowadays.

Hi Arno!
I have tested this solution with more user. I can now confirm that this solution works.

Hi Arno,
i have made a little approach light with set to Flash lights.
Static lights not the Problem.
At the modelconverter i can see the blinked light at Model....
In the Gtlf File i am missed much sets. in the modelconverter are the Range available and more.
But the gtlf file does not have flash lights, and range and so on...
I dont find the mistake from me ...

At scenery insert in msfs 2020, i see a dark pole without flashing light...

the example are here:

i have insert the range manualy and the Asobo fx file manualy....but nothing has work.

Regards ULI

Hi,

The range attribute is only for P3D lights, it is not used when exporting lights to MSFS. To define a flashing light you can use the FlashFrequency, FlashDuration and FlashPhase properties of the light. These are all exported to the glTF file for MSFS.

Hi,

The inner and outer cones are for P3D again. MSFS only uses one cone angle for the lights, so when you import a light from a glTF file the inner and outer cone angles are the same and you will only see one in the preview.

It's a while ago I tested the lights in MSFS, but if I remember correctly just setting the flash properties I mentioned before should be enough.
