• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Google Earth pictures (JPG) as scenery background

Hi,
I read much here in the forums, but I didn't really find an answer. I already created an AutogenExcludePolygon with SBuilder to exclude all trees etc. from my airport. I designed the whole airport with different polygons and I am now starting with the surroundings. I do not want to assign each single corn field a new polygon, so I just want to take the pictures of Google Earth, which look really good, for this, but not for the airport.
How can I convert those JPGs (I bet it's the wrong way to save it as jpg..) to bgl files? Is there even a way to put them in SBuilder? They have been there in the background while i created the polygons, too, of course.
I started FSX KML but then i saw that this seemed to be the same as SBuilder, also only suitable to create polygons, not for 1:1 air pictures.

Hope you understand me,
Oli

There is a new version of SBX in development and I think it should be made available before too long. I think will allow what you want. Otherwise you would have to have it in a 24 bit RGB format and use the SDK resample on it, using the guidance in the SDK millenium example.

Hi, thanks for your answer.
How are all the different corn fields in the FSX created?
I want to have fields with diferent colors, so many polygons for different types of fields. Does the FSX use background images for this or is every single field a polygon for itself?

Is there any tool to get the Google Earth screenshots in 24bit instead of JPG?

Thanks
Oli

The corn fields are set up as terrain tile textures. Each tile covers about 1.3 Km. The "landclass" files determine which texture class is used. The textures are located in \scenery\world\texture\ so you can look through them if you have a viewer for the format (suggest a freeware viewer XnView for this). Note that there are variations for most textures for different regions of the world and seasons, as well as local variations (so they don't appear to repeat in the sim).
