• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Groundpoly texture problem

Hello all,

After waiting until my new pc arrived, I started to work on my first scenery. Via Google I found the great tutorial about "Creating High-Detail FS Ground Polygons" by Bill Womack. I followed his tutorial and after part one (creating the runway and placing the asphalt texture) I am a little lost...

To begin from the start, I made my runway as a plannar in Gmax (45x2997m). Made them in different segments (just as in the tutorial). I made an asphalt texture (1024x1024) and placed in onto my runway. I used the UVW Map and set the length and width to the width of my runway (45m).

Exported the model and made the right changes to make it working in FSX.

This is my result:

As you can see, the runway ain't very nice with this blurry texture. Can someone help me with this problem?

Kind regards,
Ruud

You are too "zoomed in" using this texture. You need to zoom out (i.e. use a larger part of the texture, or use more texture tiles) when doing your texture mapping.

Hope this helps,

I used my entire texture (1024x1024). So I think i have to make a bigger one (2048x2048) or use more texture tiles.

About the last option I have a question. How can I do that?

Hi,

Create a new 2048 x 2048 texture. Copy your 1024 x 1024 texture into it (upper left corner). Then copy it in 3 more times.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

You can probably just repeat the current texture, instead of making a bigger one. Only if you have features like edges that should not be repeated that will not work. But in your case I think repeating the texture with the mapping is probably best.

Yep that's what I told him the first time, but he didn't want to seem to want that...

I didn't have any time yesterday to try this.

I understand I have to make a larger texture so I will do that first. The second step is I don't get. How do I repeat a texture? I found something about the U, V and W-tile.

just reduce the parameters of uvw wrap. instead of 45x45 use something like 20x20. in that case however, as Arno said, you will have to create a separate polygon to creat the runway edge, in case you want one.

Thank you all for replying. Yesterday I tried other settings with the UVW-mapping and it worked. Now I only have to make a asphalt texture....
