• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Half baked idea

Here's what I've been thinking:

I was browsing through the SDK for Prepar3d, and saw the approaches section allows for the creation of SIDS and STARS.

That's great; it's good to see they're expanding the simulator's capability. It still doesn't solve the problem of how to update the approaches for any significant number of airports.

What if someone were to create tutorials on how to create the approaches, then post it on the internet? What if this same venue allowed people to post their software either as freeware or payware? Theoretically, this would encourage flight sim users to create their own approaches, and post them on one consolidated website.

Websites that offer this kind of thing already don't have a lot of support for flight sim addons that are frequently updated such as approaches or navigation databases.

I am proposing to let people use my website to post their freeware or payware creations for flight simulator. The focus would be on frequently updated software, but also allowing scenery addons, aircraft addons, etc.

People would get to manage the downloads pages themselves using their own account. The source files can either be hosted on the website's server, or their own server/file sharing service, with buyers linking from a temporary and secure download link. I would take 10% commission on payware sales, and pay the vendors every week for sales based on that.

Perhaps it's a half baked idea, but given the information I have thus far, I think it's a good one.

A good idea, but a difficult execution to say the least. I have seen many websites that work similar to this come and go. I have over 300 urls from before 2007 that did similar things, and the only ones that still work no longer offer that style of hosting. It may work now, but remember this was back in FSX hay-day, not years later.

If you feel it may work, have a go at it, but limit your investment so you arent hurt in the end.

It's a calculated risk. I've already put hours and effort into making several design projects, only to have them outmoded, so I kinda know what if feels like.

My focus however is on frequently updated software. Something which nobody else seems to offer support for.

I also might add that I want to focus on Prepar3d, which is the latest thing and is frequently updated.

I'm not sure I understand what the 'product' is here. Is it Bgl files that contain approach code? Is is applications or tools that can create approaches such as ADE, or is it more information about approaches that folks can share?

It's a website allowing people to advertise prepar3d or FSX approaches or other navigation related addons for either freeware or payware. The difference from other sites like flightsim or avsim being that this one will make it easy to post frequently updated databases corresponding with the AIRAC.
