Heading of polygon

Hi Arno!

Quick question for the boss ;)

Does ScenProc have a function to find out the heading of an nearly rectangular polygon?

Example:
clipboard01nkkkh.jpg

I would like the direction from the line marked with the arrow.
I don't really care from which side it is measured, whether it is 340 or 160°... The main thing is the direction of the longest side of a polygon.

Does ScenProc have such a feature, and if not, does anyone have an idea how I can solve this in Python/ArcGIS?

Hi,

I need to check the code. In steps like PolygonToPoint I have such logic. But I need to check if you can access it as an attribute as well.

Hi,

It's available already, the special attribute FHEADING gives the heading. I'm not 100% sure if I use the longest side though, so it might be 90 degrees off.
