• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to add an overlay as blueprint

Unfortunately some airports are not available (or only with bad sattelite images) in FS2020. That's why they are missing.
Google Maps in the other hand has the perfect sattelite images.

So i want to create som of those missing airports. But it's a mess to add a runway, switch back to google maps to get a climps of the "exact" position, and try to set it there as good as possible.
So i need a way to add an google maps overlay image on my airport, positioning it ones and place my objects according to this overlay (Of course all google images will be deleted when done "Copyright")

What is the best way to achieve that. Rectangles and sliced rectangled imges only allows a certain size. So if i don't want to puzzle 1000 pieces, i need a way to lay the whole image on it.
Is there a way?

Here's a guide on how to create custom photo/aerial scenery in MSFS. So that you can replace bing with google photos
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/t...e-custom-airport-aerial-photo-scenery.448680/ :D

And, somebody correct me if Im wrong, but I think Google got nothing against people using their aerial images in flight sim :)

I got this error while building:

Looks like you missed a step in the guide.

If you did this, and you are still recieving the CGLCompiler | No CGL builder descriptor XML found in, then you are missing a file that comes with the SimpleAerial example in the SDK.

To fix this add a file called CGLBuilderConfig.xml in the the direcorty YOUR_PROJECT_FOLDER\PackageSources\CGL
image.png

And inside the CGLBuilderConfig.xml paste in this:
XML:
<CGLBuilder>
    <CGL type="SecondaryAerialImage" input="Tiles" directory="aerial_images"/>
</CGLBuilder>

Yes, i tryied it too.
But anytime i have the CGLBuilderConfig.xml within my CGL Folder and click on build, the complete sim freezes (crashes)

Maybe i use the wrong build type. I use scenery or custom. Aircraft and the other selectable things doesn't make any sence to me. Is that wrong?

Alright. Everything is like the tutorial PDF
The whole folder Packages is in Community folder.
Inside Packages is my project folder and inside this is a CGL folder (with another folder 120 in it), than there is a layout and a manifest JSON files in it, But i still can't see my scenery at the location. What am i missing?

The sim will freeze while building the CGL asset. Just wait a few minutes :)
The bigger the aerial image, the longer you'll have to wait, it takes sometime to build.

You are not supposed to place the whole "Packages" folder in the Community folder. Only the folder inside the "Packages" folder. :p

As I mentioned in the start of the tutorial, you need to have experience working with scenery from before, or else you will encounter problems.

It's also not working vice verca.
Yes, took 5 minutes. Thx.

Maybe i should copy the directory to my C:\\microsoft_xxxxxxx\Packages folder too, because it's mentioned as output in the xml. I'll give that a try.
Do i have to restart the whole sime everytime or can i just restart the flight?

Thx again, but that's exactly what i did.
The folder is named eddsmap. Within this folder is:
manifest.json [
{
"dependencies": [],
"content_type": "SCENERY",
"title": "",
"manufacturer": "",
"creator": "",
"package_version": "0.1.0",

"release_notes": {
"neutral": {

}
}
}

120 FOLDER[ two huge CGL Files sai21 and sai221 both 314 MB ]

Maybe it's the size. Maybe it's to huge. But i need a high resolution to place my airport objects as acurat as possible.

Did the whole thing again. Can't see my aerial. Maybe it's underneath the surface.
Is there a better way? This one apperantly isn't working for me.

WOW! Just tried this. Worked perfectly first time.

Excellent tutorial Augustin. Thanks for the time and effort you and the developers of QGIS, Ortho4XP and tiles2bing have put into this.
