• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to create an airport without ICAO code OR resolve ICAO conflicts?

First a little disclamer: I searched thorough topics with simple search and found nothing. I hope that gives me immunity to my first topic :)

Now an issue - let me be specific.

I was trying to edit in-game UKUA and change it's ICAO at the same time because real ICAO is UKOE. However, in-game UKOE has already been set to Korenovsk Air Base. I searched a little while and found out that Korenovsk Air Base has no ICAO code in real life. But for somre reason. SDK does not allow to add such airfields. That's not a secret that small airfields may not have ICAO.

I tried to change Korenovsk to a fiction ICAO and build the package but for some reason it didn't actually change. I just edited properties of the Airport, changed ICAO, saved/built the project and moved built filed to Community folder - wasn't it enough? The Airpork still had UKOE code. Even if I succeed wouldn't it be any further conflict?

The other solution would be to remove ICAO or Korenovsk air base at all but it seems it can't be done. Are there any other solutions?

The way to change an Airport ID is to close the airport, then rebuild it with a new Airport ID (ICAO). Unfortunately, once an ID is closed, it can't be recycled, so it can never be used again. The only option is to close/rebuild the 2 airports, and ID them to something similar to what they should be IDed. I used UKOEA for the correct Liman UKOE, and UKUAA for the Korenovsk Air Base (somewhat swapping the IDs).

I'm not sure how this will affect the ILS, NAV, ATC etc... but it's a start. Attached are the examples. There are 2 packages made, one for each airport. Study the XMLs in the PackageSources folders to see how it's done. I used ADE to make the basic airports from the Asobo stock.

Thank you very much for your answer and files. I believe it should work, but I had no opportunity to launch MSFS these days. I will make a reply once it works as it should :)

Okay, I see. That's definitely the best solution we have nowadays. However, I hope they will fix SDK to solve this issue. Thank you!

In order for the aerodrome to appear on the FS10 map, it must be assigned an ICAO code.

For my bush strips I invent a fictitious but significant icao code and I indicate it in the Readme.

No conflict with that for the moment...

Yeap, that is a solution for a non-ICAO airfields, thank you

Also note that an ICAO code can have up to 5 digits/letters. So in case of smaller airstrips you can give them the same ID as a closeby airfield and just add a number. This should reduce the likeliness of duplications.
In the past there have been some 3rd party navigation tools that had problems with 5 digit/letter codes - but currently I'm not aware of such problems for MSFS.
