How to make faded ground areas?

Hi. I would like to make faded dirt ground areas for a motor pool...The custom ground poly textures are hard edged and look like blocks...The dirt runway textures are nice and faded...I would like to model that if possible. Any ideas?

Thanks.

The easiest way is to make a decal/overlay. Make a flat model that's placed a few centimeters over the ground and map a dirt texture to it. Wherever you want the ground beneath it to show through, make the texture transparent. Basically what you're doing is painting something on a sheet of clear glass and laying it down on the ground.

Thanks for replying...a decal overlay is something id have to learn from scratch...before i start that....The dirt runway texture is perfect...nice and blended...I could just make another "runway" for the ground around the motor pool...(which would be a cheat)......or is there a way to assign the ground poly the same dirt runway texture?...thanks again.

That I'm not sure about. If you make another runway to do it, then it'll show up on the GPS in the sim and AI will try to use it. You can make a custom ground poly in ADE with a dirt texture, but I don't think the edges are blended (though I may be wrong, I've never used the ground poly editor as I make them in 3DS Max), so you'll likely still have to do some modeling and texturing yourself if you want to blend it.

I got it sorted...No flightplans are written for this little jungle strip so no unwanted AI side effect....
