• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I can't get the latest MSFS2020 Exporter addon to install

You misunderstood my statement. (I know you don’t know me, I’ve been working with/on computers for > 40 years 😂). I’m familiar with zip files. I saw the zipped folder and the same folder unzipped in the SDK. I tried both (not at the same time of course) but had the same results. I was hoping the zip file was corrupt and that was my issue.

I’ll try your suggestion in a bit. I’ve already gone down that path but The only difference is I was not aware of the utils folder, so I’ll try it with that. Which Blender are you using and is it the LTS version?

I searched for the utils in the add-ons to enable it but didn’t find it. Was wondering if I searched for the right “name”.

😉
there is No zipped file for 2024, hence my explanatory reply

you do not need or want the 2020 plugin even installed to get the 2024 plugin working
the utils folder is Only for 2024 and only comes in the SDK for that Game

either im confused or we are talking apples and oranges here
im using Blender 3.6.23 LTS from here

I agree, perhaps we are not aligned properly. My SDK does have both zipped and unzipped files! I did not zip them! The link above is exactly where I've been downloading my LTS Blenders. You and I are almost on the same page, but not quite for some reason. I am very familiar with everything you have said and I always have done that very thing! The picture below is my Blender folder in the SDK! Not my Blender config folder!

1781221864624.png!

I have discovered something interesting! Believe it or not the zipped exporter IS version 2.3.3 and the NON zipped folder is version 6.4.9. You can verify that by opening the "_init_.py" file for each in an editor and checking the version. (I assumed your folder also had both zipped and unzipped folders.) Not sure WHERE the 2.3.3 came from! I keep a clean system! I have not zipped or transferred anything! The SDK is untouched since installing it. It may be possible that the zipped files are carryovers from previous SDK versions, but I don't know

SO, I t totally uninstalled Blender, downloaded the 3.6.23 LTS and installed it. (It does not say LTS in the blender window though, thought it might). I copied the 2024 Unzipped folder (6.4.9) into the correct Blender config folder, and I now have the same exporter you do, version 6.4.9 in the add-ons window AND it is enabled.

I do NOT have any other add-on / plug in in the 3.6 folder! ONLY the 2024 exporter and the utils folder. I STILL get the same error, same look, except now it posts 3 MSFS2024 clickable areas at the top of the window! All 3 behave the same way and create errors when clicking on them. None of them have any extra options as before.

I do appreciate your efforts, but I'm about ready to put this to rest. I think we both are getting frustrated. Perhaps I'm not conveying myself appropriately. You and I think alike, and work this the exact same way, install and all, and I DO know what I'm doing, but something is lacking and I don't know what. There's something preventing both of my systems from utilizing the exporter properly. It's not Blender, (we have the same), it's not the exporter (we have the same),

I'll keep hacking away at it, (perhaps)

Thanks for the efforts! I truly do appreciate it. If you're curious as to my talents, look for KOCF on flightsim.to You won't be disappointed. Every single building / hangar / statue / etc. I made myself.

The addons are usually found in "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\3.6\scripts\addons", at least for Blender 3.6.x So if you have unwanted extra addons, that where you'll find them. In Windows Explorer, you can type %appdata% in the search and look for the Blender Foundation folder.

Right now, I use Blender 3.6.23 specifically for MSFS 2020. and Blender 4.5.10 for 2024. I have shortcuts for each on my desktop. 3.6.23 has only the 2020 addon, and 4.5.10 has only the 2024 addon. This way I never have both activated in my blender version at the same time. Also I can have both running on my PC at the same time, without nay confusion as to what I'm working on.

If I drag'n'drop a 2020 .blend onto my 2024 Blender icon, on opening it will align the materials as 2024... but convert them anyways, to insure everything is OK for 2024 exporting.

I like your use of two different Blenders for 2020 and 2024. This (unfortunately) brings up another situation. When attempting to enable the 2024 exporter in Blender 4.5.10, I get yet another error! Says "No module named 'io_scene_gltf2.blender.imp.gltf_blender_image'" and it won't enable the add-on. SHEESH! (And I did drag the latest 6.4.9 into the correct scripts folder).

I know I'm doing everything correct, (Been there, done that many times over the years). My computer literacy is rated high! LOL! I'm not new to any of this so I'm not sure what the hangup is.

Spent a little time researching this error on Google, but didn't' find anything useful. I'll do a clean install of 4.5.10 later and see what happens. Not holding my breath.

The addon also needs the _addons_utils script from the SDK added to the addons folder. You need to add that.
I have a zipped file that includes both addons attached. You can install from disk (as a regular zip install) if you prefer.

In the image above you can see that folder (and everything contained in it) already exists in the addons folder.

I’ll try your attached file later this evening. Gotta work on an MRI in a few. 😉. Thanks for sending it!

you have an errant msfs plugin And you could remove the __pycache__ folder, that might remove the errors, your probably loading the wrong script at some point with that in there (why clean install is so important, these older plugins dont play nice together)

BINGO! That fixed it! Obviously I had a corrupt file or two in my SDK. I appreciate your efforts and patience.

Now on to modeling!!!

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for your help! rhumbaflappy was kind enough to send me a copy of the two folders. Mine were corrupt. In all of the back and forth, I totally forgot to ask either of you for a copy of your files. It was the only thing in common between my two systems.

Anyway, we can put this to rest.

Thanks for your help and patience.
