• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Iceland revisited - terrain scenery

They built this church for 40 years in real life.... I almost lost my mind with the spire of this church. :banghead: Took a bit more than an object that is just a landmark in FS scenery should take. Both time and polygons. But actually it is not so hard to do LOD's so I'll get it perform better if needed. I just wanted to make a good model of Hallgrimskirkja, hopefully it will come out good. Still a lot to do with it...

Again, outstanding work. Two questions:
- Do you have a paypal for donations? (can't promise much :()
- Do you have a complete list of all your work to date?

Excellent work. Visited Iceland earlier this year and loved it. Going back again next year. Been to the top of that church.
Looking forward to this scenery very much.
Keep up the great work.

Why not add some photoreal terrain for this project instead of the landclass. Iceland is such a beautiful country with so much mountains. Looks ok with landclass but would look outstanding in photoreal.

Mike

No lanclass, please. Its not 2010 anymore.
1995 You must be kidding! You know, its not the landclass people ask for when Orbx release a new good airport like Innsbruck. Its how much extended detailed photoreal with autogen the addon included.

Italy, UK, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium and every state in the US are avsilable in photoreal any many of them are freeware so no I believe you are wrong. As for Iceland, if that is an exception for available photoimages I dont know but in general that should not be an issue. Anyway, everyone has an option to use this addon or not so I not complaining, many other interesting places to fly. My point is that landclass is not the future, to see repetitive landclass tiles all over the place, how immersive is that? Look at the direction new developers like Aerofly is going and Orbx is developing a major photoreal Pacific Northwest. Its all about high res images, good autogen and seasonal variation.

Well this is my opinion anyway :)

Unless someone develops a really good compression/decompression algorithm for photoreal ground textures, landclass will always remain superior in terms of efficiency.

Heretic, have a look at what Orbx has just announced yesterday and tell me photoreal is not the future. Seem that Orbx think so at least, and check out the overwhelming positive replies to that announcement statements like "this is the future" is not uncommon. Perhaps it is 1995 again after all :)

The Netherlands is a small country with good access to photoreal data, so phototapestry is an option (see the popular NL2000 add-on).
What most readers must have truly well overlooked in that announcement, with all that drool in their eyes, is that the next version of their Australia product(s) will retain the landclass and vector system and at best put a photoreal GB Reef in. Sounds a lot like the future to me.

Hi. I have not found images for Iceland that are usable, that's why there is not going to be photoreal terrain. The free stuff is from the year 2000 and older, most of it black and white and not georeferenced. Resolution is also bad.
Then ... yes one can buy material. But Hewe is right, you are really underestimating the price of it. ;-)

Wow I can't believe I missed this one.

Amazing job so far!

That Vestmannaeyjar (BIVM) photo scenery looks incredible! I saw a JustPlanes video once of an ATR doing a visual circling approach there and it was absolutely breathtaking.

I would be happy to donate to this project to encourage your continued effort on it.

As a developer myself (not scenery) I have tons of admiration and respect for what scenery gurus like you guys can do. Been a long time "hoarder" of any scenery I can get for any airport and any area.

Flying around and going some place with great scenery is the best.

Keep up the great work on this. Would love to explore virtual iceland in P3D!

Hi Tatu,

sorry to bother you but can you please inform me where can I get your amazing Iceland scenery?

I've been looking around through the web but impossible to find it

Thank you so much for the great job.

Best regards,

Nuno

Hi. I am sorry. My iMac's hard drive crashed, and I was only able to bring back the MAC partition at this time. The Windows data is still readable, but I haven't had time and energy to dive in there yet. I would need to buy a PC....

One version of Iceland is here:
Iceland beta

Thanks for the recent dialogue on this matter. I had been wondering where to find this download, and I have benefited from the link. I have installed this scenery and it seems to be working fine. Thanks again.

Hello
I just come from 12 days holidays in Iceland - very nice country
So I want to install some sceneries form Iceland
I found one in ORBX
And I found yours
Here is the file I have : Iceland_revisited2017_beta_10.zip
Is it the latest version ?
I have seen that I will have to disable the ORBX scenery but this is not a problem
Thank you for your help

Hiya, I think Tatu is a busy man and doesn’t have much time, which is a shame considering he’s made some of the best freeware sceneries in the game.
