• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I'm working on scenery... (2020)

Sky Tower, Auckland, New Zealand

Since New Zealand is not covered in photogrammetry I decided to make the most iconic landmark of Auckland myself. I went a bit excessive with it and made what may be described as an HD or "hero asset". The model is done. However, I have no clue how to texture this darn thing in Substance Painter and no time to learn/experiment it at the moment due to real life commitments. Oh well MSFS is supposed to be a 10 year project so there's still time... :P

Started to work on those countless chinese airports missing in MSFS stock scenery.
No custom 3D building, only default Asobo buildings and scenery: simple scene with all gates/taxipaths/frequencies/navaids/taxisigns added and working AI.
Here's Nanning (ZGNN):

And here's Chengde (ZBCD), just begun working on it but terraforming looks promising:

Spent a lot of time re-working the aerial imagery and terraforming of Chendge (ZBCD), things look OK now and I think I'll be able to replicate this work on many scenic Chinese airports built on articifial mesas which were not included in stock MSFS:

You may think that yellowish grass is a bit too much, I actually tried to make it match this picture:

Another missing chinese airport, Linfen ZBLF. Actually this was my first project, started about one month ago to get my hands on the SDK. Soon to be released along with ZGNN and ZBCD.
Again, this is only a basic scene to fill the void, using only default assets.

Next will be Beijing Daxing (ZBAD), another missing airport that has its terminal already (basically) modeled:

Btw you can see here how outdated the bing imagery can be: the small town southwest of the terminal has long been razed to leave room for the western runways of ZBAD.

Well, ZBAD was put on hold until asobo fixes aerial imagery causing CTDs in some areas.
Instead I reworked Panzihua, the default terrain being horrible and the airport having a wrong ICAO (ZREE, what were they thinking ?).
Default:

Work in progress with the correct ICAO (ZUZH):

Next chinese project: ZBDH Qinhuangdao. I'd put this one in the "boring" category, but it's missing in MSFS so it has to be done sooner or later.
Just starting to work, here's the aerial image after color correction:

Way behind schedule but in my last days for release.
MDSD Las Americas International Airport. Meant first to be released for MSFS but I will preview and release first for P3D's v4-v5.

bit of a stretch to assume someone else would be working on this, but just in case, im doing EFKI/KAJ Kajaani / Finland.

I'm working on EDKA - Aachen-Merzbrück, Germany. I took my PPL lessons there, ages ago. The airfield recently got upgraded from a 1,600' runway to a lavish 3,500' runway and hardtop taxiways.
Scenery will be for P3D v4 and P3D v5 at first, MSFS 2020 to follow.

Already very impressive for your first work. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

Are you doing the old runway design like in bing or Google maps or already the new one like you can guess in Google Earth? Actually the works at Merzbrück's runway and taxiway are already finished.

Started a big one: Hangzhou (ZSHC), the third biggest missing chinese airport in MSFS (after Beijing ZBAD and Kunming new airport).
This is a very early preview: just laid down the runways and started to work on taxi paths after cleaning the misplaced autogen and trees. Also fixed all waterbodies (35 to 40) inside the airport perimeter.
Notice that the main terminal has been designed by Asobo procedural routines, as usual I'll use default assets for missing buildings.
The aerial still needs some color tuning and will hopefully be OK in the next build.

A quick update after one week on it:
Taxi network and parkings done, paintedlines done, jetways fuctionnals, all ground markings done. Started today to draw aprons, playing with different coloration layers to match the actual shades of concrete:
