• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Issues with a model imported from SketchUp

Hi everyone,
This is my first time working with a model from SketchUp, and I'm running into serious issues.
The image below shows a model exported from SketchUp as a glTF and opened in Blender; the other image shows how it displays in MSFS2024.
When I export these cubes with PNG textures, they don't appear in MSFS2024, resulting in tiny, unusable files for the simulator.
I also have problems when saving the glTF and reopening it; the file often loads as solid pink, without textures.
What could the solution be?
Should I use Collada files (.dae), or is there another solution?
Best regards,

IIUC, you create 3D models in Sketchup that display mapped textures.

Those 3D models are then exported by Sketchup as glTF files.

Those 3D models exported by Sketchup as glTF files are next imported into Blender

When the above 3D model glTF files are imported to Blender, do they display all textures mapped by Sketchup ...including PNG's?

Do you use a version of Blender known to work compatibly with (only) the current Blender Exporter from MSFS 2024 SDK ?

When I export these cubes with PNG textures, they don't appear in MSFS2024, resulting in tiny, unusable files for the simulator.

When you export these cubes with PNG textures mapped onto them, were the PNG textures mapped ...in Sketchup ...or in Blender ?

I also have problems when saving the glTF and reopening it; the file often loads as solid pink, without textures.

You have problems "when saving the glTF and reopening it" ...in Sketchup ...or in Blender ?

Should I use Collada files (.dae), or is there another solution?

Do you mean: is it best to export from Sketchup in glTF- or another file format such as Collada DAE- ...if it is for import into Blender ?

BTW: "Pink" Faces when zoomed in, are a 'checkerboard' Material ...indicating a custom mapped texture Material could not be found.

MSFS 2024 may do this, and other 3D applications may do this as well ...if a custom mapped texture Material could not be found.

PS: Assuming Blender exports the final edited glTF's targeting your project "PackageSource" folder chain:

* A specified \Texture sub-folder must be targeted, and not the same folder containing the glTF's themselves

* That \Texture sub-folder must contain the exported textures output by Blender via Asobo's MSFS Exporter extension from MSFS 2024 SDK.

Good morning, Gary.
First of all, thanks for the reply.
Yes, you understood correctly. I received a 3D model from SketchUp, exported it as a glTF, and imported it into Blender.
SketchUp is no longer part of the equation.
After racking my brain and putting in many hours of work, I discovered the cause of the texture errors:
The ModelLib texture directory contained textures named Image_1.png, ...6.png, etc., which—for some reason—had appeared in the export slot when moving the model from Blender 3.3 to MSFS2024.
I removed these odd textures, and it worked. However, I also messed with the layout.json file and ended up breaking my project.
Now I’m going to start over from scratch, aware of these potential errors so I can avoid repeating them.
Since I already have the correct model in Blender, the workload won't be too heavy; if any questions or errors arise, I’ll post about them on this excellent forum.
Best regards.
