• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Kennedy Space Center Airport

A while back I did a project for the Space Shuttle Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center. Being a space/NASA fan, this was a labor of love for me, and I wanted MSFS users to have a good version of this historic facility. I put a crazy amount of work into the airport, but I don't have 3D modeling skills.

There are a few things I've wanted to improve/add:
  • Old Space Shuttle Hangar
  • Tweaks to the Space Shuttle Inspiration mockup model. I used a free model of the Discovery
  • Possible models for the Saturn V Center + Launch Viewing Area. Asobo/MS added the main visitor park but didn't touch any of the operational facilities or this area.
  • Airport Tower - Nothing in the base sim matches what is at the airport.
  • Easter Egg: STS-135 final landing plaque for Atlantis.
  • Moon crater field at end of RW 15. I can't even find any info on this. But there is a moon landscape with craters. My guess is that it's a historic Apolo training location.
Here is my original project.

Hi Michail71!

And what is your plan with the project?
You are looking for enthusiasts to help you, or professional support?

Hi,

Being the area of great historical significance to aviation and spaceflight, and completely ignored by Asobo, I took it upon myself to give it a proper treatment. I am working on a VAB area comprehensive scenery (payware), including crawlerway all the way to and including the pads 39A and 39B, and shuttle landing facility. I am about 35% into it. I have LUTs, MLPs, CTs, and assorted spaceflight hardware (including the same Discovery model you got 😉) Also - I've put together a controller app that will initiate Crawler Transporter run from VAB to the pad with MLP/LUT/vehicle on top. The app will also place relevant objects around the scenery at various random locations, so that the scenery will always be a bit different. Finally - the scenery will be "temporal"... you will see different flight hardware based on the space exploration time period you choose (by choosing time of your flight): Apollo, Shuttle, Or Artemis.

I can post some screenshots if you are interested. I posted a few in the MSFS's forum somewhere as well... it's been a while, I should prob post a new batch.

Anyway, nice to see a fellow spaceflight enthusiast, PM me if you have specific questions.

Oh wow, I'm super excited!!!! I missed the posts you made.

In that case I'll probably hold off on trying to do additional models for KTTS. I get occasional PMs from people to wanting improvements to the launch facilities. Making custom 3-mile-long paint lines and lighting on that runway was a challenge with the SDK.

Great! Yeah, the posts were in MSFS Forum. If anything, good reference photos are the hardest thing to come by. I have a few pretty good shots of the structures in the general area, but any other ones are welcome, if you want to share them.

Images are hard to find of the airport. I watched quite a few YouTube videos to pick up on some of the small details.

Back in college I was lucky enough to do some work out at KSC, even got to see the Atlantis being prepped for STS-71 to dock with Mir. They had everything opened up and were trying to shave off metal to reduce her weight to make Mir's orbit. :D

This looks absolutely stunning! I used to fly to TIX in real life frequently and always loved getting to see the VAB. I had always meant to do a low approach to TTS, but for some reason never wandered that far over. I'm looking forward to this one!

Will there be alligators on the shuttle landing facility (aka gator tanning facility)?

Probably not the smartest image because they wouldn't let me off the bus. Pad 39A - Apollo 11 moonshot launch and currently in use by SpaceX (building hidden behind the bushes to the left of the hydrogen tank. You can just read the name.

Oh yeah - some big gators lurking around there!

That's awesome, I think I have been at that exact spot with the tour bus a few years back (the beach is on the opposite side of the pic). Ok - I think I digressed with this thread from this forum's intent, so before I get sanctioned, I'll move the anything further on this project to showroom forum.
