• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Large Model Issues

Hi,

Been having massive issues with the Carenado ATR with recompiling it with XtoMDL. The models are around 110+MB, so are ridiculously large in MDL format. I have opened in MCX, and done a straight export to .x, when trying to export to MDL, MCX crashes solidly after approx 7 hours. (Not surprising with the model size)

I have tried using the XToMDL UI on a server and that is still chugging along after 24 hours of running, still updating every minute or so, I can run it via a Send To shortcut manually, which completes in around 10-20 minutes without error, I even recompiled XToMDL as .NET Core for a speed boost, but although quicker then end result is the below:

MCX is currently exporting the unedited model with my .NET core XtoMDL and that has been running for about 1 and a half hours so far, the UI one has been running for roughly 2.

Any ideas on this? Maybe material issues? I have tried their PBR and non PBR models, including the FSX one.

Hi,

I'm not sure I fully understand the question.if you say you can compile it in 10 minutes by sending it to xtomdl with a shortcut, is that not workable?

Compiling big x files is always slow and this sounds like a very complex model.
