• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS24 Looking for MSFS 2024 DEM / Terrain Editing Help – Paid Work

Hi,

I’m looking for someone experienced with custom terrain / DEM work for MSFS 2024 who could help me prepare terrain for a new airport scenery I’m working on.

I already have a high-resolution DEM derived from recent survey data, and the general terrain shape looks very good. What I need help with is the final cleanup and adjustment for use in MSFS 2024.

The main tasks would be:

  • remove or smooth any remaining sudden terrain spikes / holes / steps,
  • locally flatten or smooth terrain under building footprints so the terminal and other buildings sit perfectly level,
  • smooth the apron and taxiway areas so there are no abrupt elevation changes,
  • preserve the real longitudinal slope of the runway while removing short, unrealistic bumps or dips,
  • make sure transitions between the edited airport surfaces and the surrounding natural terrain are smooth,
  • prepare the final terrain / heightmap so it can be used reliably in MSFS 2024.

I do not want the entire airport flattened. The goal is to preserve the real terrain profile and runway slope as much as possible, while only removing local irregularities that would cause problems for aircraft or building placement.

I can provide the DEM/GeoTIFF, airport ortho imagery, reference data and the relevant project area.

This is for a commercial airport scenery project, so paid work is absolutely fine.

If you have experience with MSFS 2024 heightmaps, terrain rectangles, DEM processing, QGIS, Global Mapper or similar workflows, please send me a private message with examples of previous work and your rate.

I understand that the goal is to refine your high-resolution survey-derived DEM for MSFS 2024 while preserving the real terrain profile and runway longitudinal slope, with only localized corrections around the runway, apron, taxiways, building footprints, and terrain transitions. I can handle the DEM cleanup and preparation, but before confirming the workflow and rate, could you provide the DEM/GeoTIFF, airport reference coordinates or project boundary, ortho/reference imagery, the current MSFS 2024 terrain workflow or project files if available, and any specific MSFS 2024 SDK/heightmap requirements you are targeting, along with examples of the current terrain issues you would like corrected?
