• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

In connection with the future of my hangar plugin for SketchUp, I have a few questions which concerns several aspects of flight sim development.

I'll keep all the question in this thread, just to make it as simple as possible.

1. At some stage in the future, I'm hoping to port the SketchUp plugin to MAXScript. I haven't really looked into this scripting language. Would it at all be possible to create a similar tool? If so, would MAXScript allow animation of objects?

2. As far as I know, the most common (or only) way to trigger animation of hangar doors, is by setting one of the NAV frequencies. If you have several animated hangar doors, is it possible to have one frequency to open the door, and another to close the door?

3. In T-hangars and T-hangar rows, aircraft are parked "tail in" in real life. If parking spots are oriented this way in AFCADs, how do AI aircraft park, do they taxi "front in" and turn 180 degrees, or just "front in" and turn when the start on the next leg of the flightplan?

4. Using SimConnect, it's possible to use SimConnect_AIReleaseControl to let your program take over control over the AI aircraft. Is it a way to give the control back to FSX's internal AI engine?

5. Is it possible to force FSX to change between night and day textures in-game? Example, if your or an AI aircraft enter a hangar at night, the internal textures should be day textures, to simulate the hangar being lit, and when the aircraft shuts down, the internal textures change to night textures, to simulate the light being turned off.

Hi,

I can't answer them all, but lets have a go.

1. I only shortly looked at the max script and I felt it was a bit limited (but I wanted to do import and export stuff). I think creating and animating a hangar should be possible.

2. The approach you describe is for fs2004 using my CAT tool. That tool does the closing animation when the nav frequency is unset. I think that makes more sense, to tune another frequency you have to unset it anyway. For fsx that is no (easy) way to trigger the animation.

5. No, afaik you can't do that.
