• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum

MCX Batch Process: change GUID + friendly name

Hi,

When I use the function "change GUID" in the batch processing mode, I see that the GUID has not changed even though the process runs through without errors. Am I missing something?

I also noticed that one can not simply manually change the GUID of a model in MCX - in the object information it changes upon pressing "Set new GUID", but when you save the file the old GUID is written. Maybe this limited function is also called by the batch processing routine.

I recon that only changing the GUID of a model does not make much sense without also changing the friendly name. Would it be possible to combine the GUID renaming function in the batch processing routine with a friendly name change, where the names of the selected objects could be prefixed or suffixed with a custom extension? This way it would be easy to spawn objects en masse off a given repository and prefix them with a name that e.g. resembles the scenery project they are used for. Example:

barrels3-box1-v2
b37724b1-2a74-448b-a5fe-d2b01d42be82

would become

CBI-barrels3-box1-v2
f0c4f4f3-3c25-4e5d-a9a8-489e3e2facae

after the batch processing.

I hope my utterings are half way understandable :)

Cheers,
Mark

Hi,

If you overwrite an existing mdl file the exporter by default preserves the guid. You can disable that in the options.

I can probably add a batch step to prefix or suffix the friendly name as well.

Hi Arno,

thanks for the answer, I have not noticed the override option, my bad. The prefix / suffix step would be great!

Cheers,
Mark

Hello,
I don't know how to disable this setting. There is a box that says "PreserveGUIDonExport" and I hit False, but The MDL I tweaked still has the same GUID.

Ok I know you can do it in the Model Info window, it is not a batch process, but it works.

I can change the GUID, but when I export the mdl, I can never find it. I think it has something to do with the paths.

I would check the log for a failed export because that would address the batch process issue as well.
