• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Mirrored object flipped in SDK

Hello!

I've recently started modelling and airport building in SDK and it's kind of a new thing to me. I've faced with many problems but this one is something I couldn't solve on my own.

In blender if I mirror an object, everything seems to be right. But in SDK when I import the whole model, this mirrored object flips (maybe) on all axis. On X and Z for sure.
What I don't understand is that the roof is made of two objects as well, one of them was flipped, and it's still working without any issue. The white object however is flipped. It was a cube which I edited the edges in edit mode and then mirrored on X axis.

I'm using Blender 4.1 and Microsoft Flight Simulator glTF Extension for Blender.

Thank you for helping!

Save the .blend file of the object, and zip it. Then attach that to a post.

A few problems.
First, Select all in Object mode, then CTRL-A and apply all transforms. This gets rid of scaling and rotational problems. This is a common thing between Blender and MSFS. Always apply transforms.
Second, In Edit mode, Select all. Then under the Mesh tab | Normals | Recalculate Outside. This fixes any normal problems caused by mirroring, or transforming (as above).

In Object mode again, you might want to Select all again, move the objects to 0,0,0 (world center). Not really needed, but it is neater when placing objects in the sim. Also, it's usual to Select all the objects and Join them. Again, not necessary, but neater.

The big problems are applying the transforms and recalculating the outside normals.
The export settings are also not quite what you want. For one thing, MSFS doesn't support Tangents... this is what I usually use:

You would tick Vertex Colors if you used them. Almost no one does.

Thank you so much! I've rebuilt the roof section succesfully by making sure applying all transform and checking if outsides are calculated well.
Thank you for your kind help and advices!
